I just recently purchased my first RX-7 it is an 1987 low end model I am having some trouble getting it to start I turn the key and nothing happens all the lights will come on and I can hear all the fans coming on but nothing from the engine I am asuming that it could possibly have something to do with the starter but not sure and I thought I would ask a few questions before I started pulling stuff off of it that didnt need to be taken off thanks

Does it 'click' like the starter is trying to turn over? Or make no noise... The starter could have a bad connection (known to happen).
Also, check your 'MAIN' 80A engine fuse. It's on the drivers side of the engine bay in a little black case (with like 5 other large fuses). I'm pretty sure what you're describing could be caused if this fuse is blown. (not sure about the fans coming on though) If it is blown, it doesn't just 'pull' out. It's bolted in. To remove the bolts, you'll have to open a little 'door' on the side of the fuse-bank. I believe there are two 10mm bolts? Then you pull it out.

If the lights come on, his 80A main is not blown.
Make sure your battery is fully charged (or jumped) and clean and tighten the battery cables. If it still only clicks, it might be the starter solenoid or a bad connections like Erik noted. Is it a manual or automatic? What does your voltage read when you try to start it?
