It really depends on what you want to do and what you can afford. I'd say rebuild, but measure everything out and reuse what you can. at 150k miles though? I would suggest not to buy used, you don't know what your gonna get...

You should totally go through atkins, pinnaple and i have found that rotary ressurections is KICK *** with thier customer service and seem really down to earth!

150k on original parts means you can basically reuse the Rotors, Eshaft, Irons (after lapping+nitrating), oil pickup, oil pan, and front cover + some other misc parts. Everything else is just throw away.
Honestly the best way is to buy a good, low mileage motor, tear it apart +clean it up, rebuild it and be good for 50k.
87-88 Turbo II motors just never seem to last, reminds me of a 78-81 12a's. Mileage + hard driving just kills them.

I think a rebuilt motor should last you 100K at the very least, unless you screw up building it or overboost it or if you race it for every mile you drive it. If you do as you said, new housings, lapped plates + nitrided its going to basically be a new motor. New motors well last over 100k and have been known to go alot farther (+200K) generally non turbo though.
I also disagree about throwing parts away, no reason to throw away parts if they are spec'd out to be good. Why buy another motor when he has one already?

i think what spyder was saying is that if you have a motor with miles on it like that, its not worth trying to reuse most of the parts of even give away those parts.. I took down over 20 engines this last six months and out of all of them i think i ended up with five or six good housings and the rest i couldnt sell and many that just should not be reused... I have found that even the slightest side seal wear from a 40K miles engine can cause problems for a rebuilder.. So its just safest to get new parts and discard the old ones, its not a 12a, they make new ones

when i got my t2 motor it was toast at 90kmiles i then spent 2600 or so on low jdm plates new housings and atkins rebuild much better then payin a company to build my motor more money in my pocket
V8 monies would buy a pretty nice Wankel.... and then you're repairing only one part instead of swapping: motor, trans, driveshaft, wiring harness, ecu [or replacing with a carb].
Doesn't even make sense that way to me.. Build a reliable rotary for less effort than the swap? Why not?
hmm, V8=good gas mileage, HUGE aftermarket for parts, and the saddest part, the car is worth MORE with a ls1 than a RE.... after discussing it with a few people its hard to see a down side to a LS1 rx7.....
I'm sure my rotary isn't gonna like the HX40, and when it goes (not if) it will get parted, and the transplant will happen.

any 1 can drop a big motor in something and get lots of power ........it s like getting shak on your basketball team ......now to build a tiny , little bidy 1.3 .2 rotor motor that hauls *** is much more impresive ....10mm
This is debatable. I have nothing against v8's, simple proven technology. But to take the time to swap an engine shows dedication to the Chassis.(more Rx-7s on the road)
But I don't like 'em as much as a built rotary, thus I would pay more for a built rotary rx than a ls1 rx7. Now if its a REW FC? or a Ls6 FC/FD? I like either way! To each their own.
