Evolution x is a pig with only a few more HP than a 9. I love my 9 its a monster for cheap all around car. Subis are a little more refined and nicer inside. Either one is s great d.d.

not exactly the lightest awd car but the mazdaspeed6 is cheaper than both sti and evo. A touring turbocharged mazda with awd and leather doesnt sound bad to me for a daily. just sinking a thought in your head

If your looking for performace, I like the Subaru better then the evo!!!

But if your looking for the best awd car for the price, take a look at the suzuki Sx4. I have one for my daughter and for $17,000 you get awd, stability control, traction control, power windows, power lock, CD, ect, ect......

Last week I went to crystal mountain and I was off roading for one mile, by taking a wrong turn. (it was the firth time going there) and there was around one to two feet of snow on that road and the suzuki did great. The only time I had a problem was went, I realise that I was lost, and that there was no place to turn around, so I had to drive a littler bit in reverse, to make it to a spot, were I rock the car back and forward to turn it, and it was a hole that I ended up in that made me worry that I was not going to get out. But once I got the car in a straight line it got out very easy. this do to the fact that it has an awd lock switch that you can use up to 36MPH. Its a great car for a daily driver only costing $17,000!!!

Have fun car shopping!!!

ohhhhh yeahhhh got to love the 2006-07 mazdaspeed6.

2.3l awd 4 door touring car that with some tasteful mods can really hang with an evo or sti for a lot less.

If i had the money there would be one in the garage right now next to the 7.......what a great picture

i would def pick an evo over sti. sti gearing is way too short for regular usage (its annoying to drive IMO), and the evo drivetrain is simply better. stronger, cheaper, higher potential. a full pullout, engine+trans, is cheaper than an sti 6 spd alone. evo has MIVEC (vtec basically), and electronically controlled diffs on the 9. STI has DCCD, which a lot of people just override and use a ****.
evo MR's came with a bilstein setup that kicks *** (without being too stiff). evo suspension is simply better than STi's. look at autox- STU and BSP are both dominated by evos. the sti's have a lot more mechanical have mechanical probs, and are still slower.
http://www.scca.com/documents/result...ook%20file.pdf
STU on page 15, BSP page 19

not saying sti's are a slouch by any means, but if the prices are equal, its an easy choice for me.

oh and fwiw, my buddy has an evo 8 with 160k miles on original motor, makes 315whp @22psi with turbo back exhaust and boost controller. still handles/drives great. he picked it up for 9k last summer because the clutch is on its way out and the dude couldnt afford to have it changed. we have access to a lift, so it should take a day and the cost of a clutch to fix it whenever we get around to it. still holds fine, just cant drag launch.

^ what he said which is the exact reason there is an evolution 9 in my driveway. Plus they kick butt in S.M. as well. Mazdaspeed 3 is a great little daily with some utility as well
