Leave for basic training in 1 week

Hey everyone. I'll be leaving for texas in exactly 1 week for the air force boot camp. Then it will be down to florida for tech school to become a TACP (Tactical air control party) which is like the elite air force guys. Here is an artical on them http://www.romad.com/press/aetctorch/dirty.htm

Hopefuly I can make it through tech school. I dont do too good without sleep and like the actical says they go through a week of the training with only 2 hours of sleep a day.

<<<< SSgt in USAF 7 yrs.

Good luck, bud. don't be discouraged if you don't make the elites... not everyone does. Go through the tryouts there in basic. That way you'll know for sure if you'll be able to do it. If not, get a different job there in basic! It will save you a hell of a lot of headache! Trust me!

Good luck in the Air Force. If you have any specific questions, you can PM me.

Cool, I enlisted as an A1C. What kinda job do you got in the USAF?

Well yea I can go through the try outs, but I read the requirments for tryouts. It's 50 push ups in 2 min, 50 situps in 2 min, and 2 miles in 14:30.. I can do all that in my sleep. I was reading about their tech school and it sounds WAY more intense than just being able to do that. They do push ups the whole day, then the week with little sleep. It's ganna be hell but I think I can do it.

you'll learn to live w/o sleep. I had so much fun in the field I think I slept a total of 6 hours in 4 days once. The military is awesome! Damn these fragile bodies of ours...

I was in the army for 6 years joined when I was 17 and just completed my 2 year standbye. The military is a great experience you'll meet lots of different people from all over, visit lots of places, and see lots of different things like T&A. It's kind of scary at first because its all new, but after you get through that point it is nothing but uphill. I don't regret it for one minute and would do it time and time again. No sleep, well you'll get used to it really quick, the military doesn't believe in sleep or pay. Basic training is all a mind game, try to do your best and don't be a smarts *** or show off because the drill instructors can get to your head and will always try to break you down. Good luck, soldier.

The military is a great way to find the direction you need in your life. I was an aircraft machanic on B52's and a C141 Flight Engineer.

Good luck! My dad was a drill instructor in San Diego Ca/ North Carolina. What my dad says they look for the weak & smart a$$'S/show offs. Don't be one of them and you'll be alright. He retired as a Sergeant Major in Marines.

Even though I prolly won't go into teh Military I have great respect for the whole lot of them. My dad served 21 yrs in the Navy and although we had to move a lot the whole expierence was fun. Good Luck and hope that Luck is on your side. My dad got real lucky cause right after basic training he got a chance to go to Officer school and he took it. Changed his life forever.

Army Military Police here, so y'all watch yourselves

Nah, its not that bad dude. Im sure you'll like it. As someone earlier said, I was scared at first even after I got out of training, meeting everyone in my unit and not knowing what was going on. It was weird. But, I can honestly say I love it now. I just got back from a deployment in Germany (go there if you can, seriously. Ramstein AFB is cool.) and Im already thinking about volunteering for another mission actually. I cant get enough now. Im currently working my *** off cause I wanna try and go through Air Assault school soon.

For those of you who have been through Army basic training and remember how different and relaxed your AIT school may have been, my MP school was almost worse than basic because we had to be so "perfect". I went to an FTX in the field and slept MAYBE 2 or 3 hours a night for the 2 weeks we were out there, sometimes none if we had fire guard. It was BAD. But, I can say I made it, and I look back on it now and laugh, knowing that it only made me stonger.

I truly am waiting for my E-5 so I can volunteer for Drill Sergeant school. I really respected those guys in a weird kinda way when it was all said and done with, looking up to them almost as mentors. I want to instill that into someone else, and be that person they look up to.

Good luck though man, Im sure you'll have a lot of fun. You probably wont know it at the time, but when you're done and looking back on it, you'll realise you had a lot of fun. I know I did.

-Nah im not worried about basic at all. I'm just saying the school after will be hard, then I have to do survival school. Survival school is hard, for a week you have to survive in the forest without any tools and food. Then they catch you after a week and keep you POW and beat the **** out of you. Supposed to get you ready incase your in that situation.

The more you think about it, the harder it'll be. It's all mental. The physical aspect of it is just to see how much heart you've got. If you can make it mentally, you'll get by.

I was in the Marine Corps. Got out in '97. The military is a good place to learn about yourself and life. I highly suggest it for anybody. It was good for me and has opened doors for me everywhere I've been since.

BTW, in that POW training...does it still allow for them to go as far as breaking bones if they see fit to? Otherwise, being slapped around and kicked isn't so bad.

I went through a pretty rough one in the Army, we did both sides of it. We had to run the camp, and we also had to be in it for when the other MPs were running it. When we did it, TRADOC says they cant touch us, but uh, well nevermind. We all know how MPs are with POWs

Jet Engine tech in Bitburg AB 85-88' F-15's and McConnell AFB 88-91 B-1B's. 14 countries in 6 years loved every minute of it. Go for overseas on your first tour and see the world....Americans are stupid to how the rest of the world really is like, they see it through the news on the TV and think that's how thing's are.....go find out for yourself. Keep your head up and your eyes open, been on 2 aircraft fires and the training saved us both times.
Best of luck

I've been in the AF for a little over two years now. I'm Combat Radar Maint. (awsome job).

Don't be upset if you don't make TACP, most people don't. They aren't that hardcore anyways. Pararescue and Combat Controlers are the real bad asses.

If you have any questions about anything give me a call at (702) 806-8737, my name is Jeff. I'll be more than glad to answer any questions you may have about what you are getting yourself into.

Best of luck man.

Heh, so according to that article, they stand around in their underwear, wonder if they went to the right recruiters because they actually have to work in the AF, and deploy with the Army which is why they have to work - to be as good as us

Give me a call when you are going through SV-80... my wife is an instructor over there. It's not nearly as bad a course as everyone makes it out to be, most people are ******.
