kid a really stupid thing today

My 17 year old son who lives with his mom did a really stupid thing today that was intended as a joke but the owner of the truck is considering it theft. The truck is a older one set up with a key that is permenantly in the iginition, well my kid being a smart *** jump in it and decides to drive it around the park parking lot a few laps then park it in a different spot. It was fully entended as a joke on the owner... he got really pissed and is calling it theft. nothing was stolen, it never left the property was only moved. owner is claiming damage and other ****.

I have yet to talk with the parties involved yet including my boy as he is not returning my phone calls. I am soo pissed right now..........what would you do? If he is going to be a car thief then there will be no 7 for him in the future at all and I will totally disassoate myself with him starting right now. this was no joke and is very serious. waiting to here from all parties involved before going ballistic on him.

please comment before I go off on him. Thanks, there is a lot of wisdom here and am asking for some serious advise here on the subject.

Joe

Yeah I've played this joke on a buddy too. Im sure just the thought of being charged with theft is scary enough that he will learn his lesson, but a good talking to wouldnt hurt just to seal the deal.

Does he know the owner well? I know if one of my buddies did it it would be funny, if it was some kid i barely knew then i would as pissed as the owner. Also how nice is the truck? friend or not if you drove my rx7 w/o my knowing you would be getting your *** handed to you, if it was my pos DD geo prizm then it would be no harm no foul.

if the truck had a key permanently affixed in the ignition im assuming it was a POS, it never left the property. this guy really has no right to be pissed, he should just be thankful it wasnt a real thief. tell him to replace his ignition lock, or wire in a kill switch

Before you explode just think back how many time we at his age did something...stupid. Then approach it. Frustrating yes, new? by no means. Teenagers have been driving their parents crazy since at least 10000 B.C. Lol.

I wouldn't go to hard on the kid. I probably would have done the same thing at his age.

Leave your keys in your car while you are driving it, remove keys when your done, no issues.

Tell this guy not to be such a naive tool to think no one is going to ever drive his car when he is the dumb **** that leaves the keys in it.... how stupid is that ? Insurance is going to laugh at this guy and leave his *** out to dry when it does finally get stolen and he has to tell them "yeah....umm... herp a derp i did has leave the keys in it all der time"

personally, 17 y/o's have their minds made up, stern talkings to won't do a thing as they are for all purposes already adults.

Let your son know that this country has a 10-25% unemployment rate for hard working people who follow the rules. Then also tell him the unemployment rate of convicts is probably around 90%. Then take him to 3rd ave & pike st downtown Seattle and show him how the other low lifes are living each and every day beggin for $.15 to buy some food, I mean really get in there, force your 17 y/o to go talk to some of these people with burned fingers from holding the lighter on their fingers too long while smoking crack, show him the guy with no teeth cause he gets drunk and fights everyone, show him the crazyeyed people swinging their arms at invisible ****, yelling and generally just being annoying. The place is full of crazies!!! afterwards ask him if he wants to follow rules or break them and end up like the people on 3rd Ave?

kick the owner of the trucks *** for being such a turd. I would think this would get thrown out of court, but your son will most likely have to do community service for a while. imagine if it were a cop who found him first.
