Question I'm tearing stuff apart

In an effort to ready my car for apple blossom, I'm removing the useless stuff from my engine bay today. So I figure the cruise control unit can go, but what about the hot start assist. If I remove it, will it effect anything? anything else that can be pulled? I don't wanna have a nice rx7 that has to be pull started anytime I wanna drive it.
oh yeah, it's an 83 gsl.

Do first gens have a charcoal canister? Ditch that. All emissions, AC/PS if you can, any brackets left over including ac/ps large bracket, cut off the emissions solenoids from the harness (if applicable), cruise control, get an e-fan if you want a more "open" look, the list goes on there's tons of stuff you can get rid of.

Vapors and **** from the gas tank get sent to the canister and it vents them back into the intake manifold or something like that. However, if the charcoal canister is full it has a fail safe to vent to the atmosphere anyways. So cap the line to the intake mani, and leave the line from the gas tank venting. On startup it'll vent the gases/vapor and will be done. FYI each startup will smell like gas after doing this, but meh.

SA/FB's with a carb'ed 12A have the charcoal canister on the bottom of the aircleaner-cover. To get it off, you'll need to drill out the spot welds holding it on. Supposedly, removing it will also improve the airflow. Or you can just get the RB aircleaner assembly.

I would personally leave the cruise control in. It is nice for long distance trips like the one to Apple Blossom and it can give those few extra precious MPG.

only 79 & 80's have the canister on the air cleaner assembly. the others have them on the passanger fender well. pretty easy to get rid of, just follow the lines and remove. it looks like a skinny black coffe can with i believe ( been years since i've seen one) has 2 lines coming from the top. as for things to remove, the hot start assist is easily removed with no problems, cruise control ( only if you don't use it), cold start assist is useless, a/c ( remove everything with this, hoses and all), air pump( but hold onto it if you live in emisions areas), rats nest if you haven't ( you can disconect all the wires at the engine harness if you follow the manual good), hell you don't even need the vacuum advance hoses going to the carb. the carb can be cleaned up alot also, won't go into that though. good luck and have fun.

DON'T remove the charcoal canister. It was put on there as a safety device. it gets rid of fuel fumes. (highly flamable!!!)

You prolly don't want to yank the cruise if you're going to ABF... it's a really nice thing when you're driving a long way!!!! It was awesome last year.

Charcoal canister does nothing but filter vapor and send it to the manifold to be burned off. The reason for this is because no vapor from oil, gas, anything can be vented to the atmosphere by law, all of it has to be burned off inside the engine again. The charcoal canister even has a fail safe where if it gets full it just dumps it out the bottom to the atmosphere. Because of that I see no problem removing it since it can dump it in the same general area itself.

What should I do with the hose from the sub-zero bottle? I Imagine I can just cap it where it goes into the carb/manifold, correct?

So today while pulling and polishing, I discovered that my OMP has been disconnected for about 8000 miles! I can't believe it still runs, and it runs great too. The Vapor return canister is now gone, along with a ton of other useless CRAP.

I'm guessing it has something to do with apex seals and oil... based on my limited experience with rotaries.

Adrian, the only way I could ever beat your cobra would be to slash your tires before the race. My little car isn't much faster than last year. I do have some intentions on building a motor for it that'd have a better chance against you, but that'll be awhile. I'll still race ya now though.
