I need a better job

Well for the past few months I have been working in the automall. I left Wal-Mart for a job at a dealership because I figured a job at a dealership would have a future... Right? Well I was hired on with the understanding that I would be a full time lube tech, which was fine by me because that is the same thing I was doing at Wal-Mart. Well shortly after starting my hours were cut drastically, I went from working 38 hrs a week, to only 26 hrs a week, and I am hourly, and I have a family (my wife, 2 year old daughter, 6month old twin daughters) . So things are pretty tight right now, and not the good "tight"! My point is that I left my last job which I was already getting benefits, doing the same stuff, making only a nickel less than I am right now, and not having to commute to the job! I am seriously considering going back to my old job because they want me back, and I can probably get paid more than when I left. So just to let everyone know, I am currently on the lookout for a new job. If it isn't already apparent I am mechanically inclined (I am enrolled in the automotive program going for my ATA degree at South Puget Sound Community College). I am however very good with computers and I am all of my friends and families go to guy when they have computer problems or when they need something built. I also do xbox mods. So for any of you that know of any jobs needing computer skills (build, repair, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and the like) please let me know. Oh yeah, it would be best if the job was located in Olympia area or Lewis County (I live in Centralia).

Dude, you and me are quite alike. I am also a lube tech at Buick, Pointiac, GMC truck dealership and enjoy working on computers but i dont have the financial or family problem. I get 40+ hrs a week but hate my hourly rate. It's why I have to work overtime to get a decent paycheck. I would recommend doing what you WANT to do but you can't really do that with your current status. Dont delay any longer. Suck it up and crawl back to Walmart. There you can build your money back up and then go to a technical college. Dont make yourself suffer. Hang in there man, you can do it.

Wish I was allowed overtime or full time hours for that matter! I would love tech college, but in the end I have noticed that a lot of employers are looking for a degree with those skills, which is why I am getting my ATA degree. I am on financial aid so I would need a local college (Olympia area) that accepts financial aid, and the trend with some of these technical colleges is not accepting financial aid. If I were to go to a tech college it would be bates or clover park, or ITT depending on which field I want to work in most. Ideally I would want to go to wyotech or something similar to that with an accelerated program with certification.

That sucks man, hope ya find a good job.
Sounds kinda like what happened to me (with cut hours).
I was doing about 25/hours a month, training to be a manager at gamestop, but then our DM got fired and some new jerkoff got put in. Then they hired someone from outside the company to fill the position I was training to be in. Then cut my hours from 25... to 4 a week, and also cut my pay back to the normal lackey. The comp tech place I was applying for also just shut down so that gave an influx of people (only like 5 mind you) to best buy/circuit city so now I cant find a tech job there. I have about 3-4 years experiance too ><
When I lived in Arizona I used to work at gamestop, and be a district information technology technician, and junior (like for only 1 HS) network admin. Then I moved up here and transfered my gamestop job hoping it would go somewhere. Yeah... nope. The state isn't really hiring, already applied there.
Sorry about my rant, but again I wish ya luck and can somewhat empathize with you.

Hey told you to quite or pull the trump card way back at ABF...glad that you are finally doing it. I can't believe that you have even survived this long. My advice is to go where the money/ experience is. If you are lucky you will hit both. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. I say take the job at Walmart if they can offer you a steady amount of hours. You can alway quit...oh and yeah ask for more money when you come back! If they want you as bad as your saying then they will pay more too.

Good luck!

Well, looks like I should be back at wal-mart very shortly. The lube shop has completely new management (good thing!) and all of my friends that still work there want me back. So basically everyone in the lube shop wants me back, they need someone that does not need training, and they need someone now. So all of that works out perfect for me! I was placed on the re-hire list and what is good about going back is I should be able to start out getting the same pay or more, and I will have the potential of 3 raises within the first year I am back.
