covertable top vinel or cloth. what do you think?

I am getting a new top for my 88 convertable rx-7. . The question is wether to replace it with original (vinal) or to go with the up grade of cloth. I personly think the cloth is cool but I like to stay original. The original top has 17 years on it and it still looks great except for a recent cat job...
Tell me what you think in terms of looks value and upkeep.

The cloth looks nice when new, but it is very unlikely you would still be using the original top 17 years later if it were canvas. The vinyl will be much easier to maintain, won't likely discolor or look faded at points of abrasion where it folds, like the canvas will. Of course this is partly a matter of color - mine were black or brown.

I built convertibles with both, and the vinyl is better suited to Puget Sound.

the trick is to keep it out of the freeze and sun. When it is not in the garrage it has a car cover on it
