I bought an RX-8 instead!
Just wanted to let all of you know, people that I told I was buying an RX-7. Everyone convinced me that I was paying way too much money for that 7 so I did not end up getting it. If figured if I was going to buy a car for 1000 dollars(what most people said I should pay for an FC) I should have a garage or a place to work on it... I have neither. So I decided to go a little more expensive but also more reliable and get an RX-8. I hope I can still be a part of the club however and join you for meets. I would have an RX-7 if I had a place to keep it/place to work on it... but since I need a daily driver to get from my apartment to work, I had to get something requiring a little less work. Still a rotary, and I hope I can still be accepted by you guys.

Talk about paying too much for a car?! The RX8's are WAY overpriced! I drove a brand new RX8 a few months back and I was not at all impressed. The only two positive notes I found were the 6 spd tranny and leather seats.....
I'd take and FC over an RX-8 any day... And I won't even begin to compare the 8 to my FD...
Just my opinion though...

Well I did get it used so it wasn't too pricey (maybe just a tad more than the FD) and if I get the motor recall I'll have a brand new engine. The one I have now though only has 37000 miles on it anyways and it is so much fun to drive.

Hey bro! I understand perfectly how you feel and I would had done the same thing. But now I have a Garage and hope the car dosen't break down on me anytime soon. Also at least you stay in the Rotary seen which is nice. If it have a rotary is all good don't worry about peoples in the meetings because their are Rx8 In other area like Puerto Rico Pushing insane hourse power. So, realible, good mpg and less time you have to spend under the hood = more time driving it, enjoying it, and having fun with it. So, good choise and a smart one too ***Two Thumbs UP***

It's a PCM reflash + catalytic converter check + engine check. The oil delivery was lower than Mazda had previously intended on for the rx8 through the MOP so they are CHECKING all motors, not replacing all. Any that need replacement will get it for free, all others will continue as normal.
And to the thread starter, rx8 was a great choice! It handles so beautifully. Once you get used to how the car drives/handles you'll never stop smiling. I had a fairly modified FC before the rx8, and I must say the rx8 is MUCH better in every aspect. But what can you expect in present day technology versus 80's technology?

When I first got my rx8 I would've agreed with you. I still owned my FC and didn't understand all the hype. I thought my FC still handled better and was more controllable, was a little upset. But once I started driving the rx8 ALL the time and really learned the dynamics of the car and how it handles, I was way wrong. It took me time to learn how the rx8 differs incredibly compared to FC's and FD's. Now I'd have it no other way!
And yes the FD handles better than the rx8 stock vs. stock, no argument there. But that's because the FD was built too. It is MUCH stiffer and less comfortable, the rx8 you feel no bumps or anything, very smooth and easy to drive yet it still handles great. And of course the FD is faster, but that's because it was meant to be. I still find 14.5 respectable for a stock 2 rotor n/a.

Just so you know, On the autocross course, a stock rx8 will out handle a stock FD. I have seen it happen time and time again, I not a huge fan of the rx8, but it is a wolf in sheeps clothing. If you dont believe me, get off of your *** and **** cones for a year and half. On the same note, a mine cooper S will embarass a stock FD. FDs are awesome cars, 13 years ago. When they were cutting edge.

I miss my Rx-8. I realy do. Anyone who tells you they would wrather have a N/A FC over a Rx-8 has been tweeking a little to much.
I've owned my share of FCs, and the Rx-8 is hands down a better car. There is NO comparisson!
My wife and I sold my 8 because, I received a company vehicle. I have a FD, so I thought that I did'nt need to have two cars sitting in my garage, collecting dust. My wife wanted a little commuter car, so we traded the 8 in on her 05' mazda 3. CJ

It's definately a great deal. I've had a couple chances to drive it for him. Mazdaspeed exhaust and lightweight flywheel. Doesn't make it any faster, but sounds better and revs much quicker unloaded (great for heal-and-toe ). I still have my FC, and as soon as I get my next raise, I'll be getting a new motor for Rose so she come out and play again. But Ruby is definately a faster car in every regard. More refined suspension (she does need springs, sway-bars, and some other stiffening, but some of you know how hard I drive, and it's definately beyond Mazda's intent.
