i was wondering how many people in the WA area would be interested in rear and from strut tower bars for 1st and 2nd gen, for cheap price , custom fabricated, ( going to base off of proven and popular designs, cant "copy" but similar to ensure functionality)

the bars will be made out of steel( for strength, not like flimsy aluminum) and coated so they will not rust,

not sure how much materials will cost but price will be way lower then other name brands.

let me know if anyone would be interested as we are gonna start making some within a few weeks once, i get things straighten out.

 

would the front be triangulated? i'd be interested for the FB...

 

I would be very interested. Can't pay what CP racing wants and i dont really like their front design anyways. Do not want a triangulated one in front due to they wont let you Auto X. I really want one in the back but Id have to lose mly bandpass sub box.....

 

I would like to see a design first...can ya draw?

 

havnt started yet, im gonna look at various designs see which seem to be strongest, its a project me and my dad are gonna start soon, but not too soon, since we gotta get a car going and sold, so i can buy a turbo motor, but if they arnt too hard to make we could sell a few replicas for cheap.

why wouldn't they let u AutoX with a triangulated?

Too much strength?? I dont know. I haven't talked to a official myself, but a couple of people have concurred with Auto X wont let you have the triangle ones.

 

I'm sure it's not illegal for autocross entirely, probably just illegal for certain classes.

I made my own strut braces from aluminum, and they are not the least flimsy, indeed very rigid. It is just a matter of proper design. They look good polished, and will not corrode under any normal circumstances. Hey, it's good enough for airplanes! The only reason people use steel is it's cheap.

 

yeah i know alluminum isnt flimsy, but some of those 50 dollar ebay specials are very flimsy looking.

Yeah, someone taped rocker covers to my motor, and they must have done something that screwed up the idle - has a really radical idle for some reason.

Regarding the strut braces, using round or square tubing, either steel or aluminum has the advantage that is takes up the least possible space and provides the best access to your engine. Sheet metal by its nature must be much wider. If you have any fabrication skills, it is not hard to make your own.
