Good NA Tuners?
Are there any good NA tuners in the Seattle area? I have a stock port engine with an AFC and I'd like to know who would be able to tune it to bring that extra 1-5 HP that i might get from this configuration. I'm looking for tuners who can improve my:
(In order of importance)
1. Gas Mileage
2. Reliability
3. Power
Anyone fit those criteria?

Tuning NA on a SAFC isn't that hard. You could do it on the street if you have a wideband. Any dyno tuning place could do it for yo also. You just need to know what AFR's you want to hit at specific RPM's.
You can tune an SAFC with a Gtech. No wideband necessary because NA rotaries don't knock in this moist oregon air (at least mine never did when going lean / too advanced with timing). Here's how I did mine:
1. Experiment with CAS angle first to maximize acceleration across the rpm range
2. Tweak SAFC with CAS setting from above to maximize acceleration on the WOT map
3. Lean out SAFC when cruising on freeway using the low throttle map (OK to lean out to the point where motor gets a bit rough, than back off; no knock ever occurred when I did this)
And bam, 28+MPG with a medium streetport, 14.78@95.6mph at Woodburn.
Being 2420 lbs didn't hurt either.

Every car is different. My car made peak power at 14.25....yes, that lean. Where I did my tuning by the butt dyno, I was pretty close to max rwhp. However, when I had Ralph at GZ tune my car, we picked up (if memory serves correctly) around 10rwhp in the mid range. My car ran around the same time as LS's but trapped a little higher, and weighted alot more. CJ

Call them and ask for Ralph. He's one of the owners, and does the tuning on Rx-7s. Very cool guy. CJ

If you can wait a little while, there might be a tuning deal coming up with Ralph at GZ. The details have'nt been worked out just yet, but there will be something that would make the drive worth while. When the time comes I'll post a thread about it in the NW section. CJ

I would be very interested in this too, as my 86 N/A is my DD and it would be killer to have better gas milage

My schedule is pretty set, I'd have to get the car tuned the morning of June 12th. I'd doubt there'd be many people wanting to get their car tuned on a Tuesday.
I can't say what date exactly its going to happen. But chances are'nt to good that it'll be on a tuesday. On the other hand, if you want to give Ralph a call, and tell him what you're interested in, I'm shure he'd cut you a deal. CJ
