BSCC Drivers School at Bremerton 3/12

We are planning on doing another drivers/novice school on the 13.
Last time it was $25, for a full day at the track. Generally, you get at least 4 hours of driving with instruction on multiple courses. I will know more next week, but I thought I would like you know now.

All you need is a valid drivers license, a car that will pass tech, 18 years of age, the 25 bux or whatever it costs. thats it. i did it last year for some track time and it was pretty good for the cost. Its basically autocross oriented stuff.

If you are in the region and can do this......DO IT! Always a great time. I wish I had a racetrack within 1000km's of me.

From the BSCC FAQ:

What is involved with a vehicle inspection before an event?

Your vehicle must be checked for safety reasons. Some of the more common items checked for would include but are not limited to:

Loose wheel bearings
Cracked rims
Non-binding throttle return spring.
Battery is mounted securely, with no forcible motion (Bungee cords are unacceptable).
All fluid reservoirs are properly capped. (no signs of excessive fluids being leaked on the track)
Brake pedal must be firm.
Minimal steering wheel play.
Secure seat with unfrayed and serviceable restraints.
Your personal helmet must meet Snell 90 or better ratings.
Removal of loose items within the cabin (includes floor mats, and items hung from mirrors), and trunk.
NOTE! Have your vehicle empty of loose items BEFORE you enter grid!

I'm not sure if the Snell 90 rating is still allowable, though. Oh, and make sure your car doesn't leak any oil onto the ground, that's a big issue with old cars, as is the battery looseness. Most of the cars that I see denied are because of unsecured batteries.

It will be $25
Reg and Tech is from 7:30 to 8:30
Drivers Meeting at 9:00
BSCC will buy Pizza
End around 4:30 (or when we all get tired).
No space is limited, and based on the number of instructors that show.
Please be on time, to ensure a spot.

See you sunday the 12th.
Here is what we will be looking at in regard to tech.
Tech Inspection Requirements

Safety Helmet: If you bring your own safety helmet, it must be approved by Snell in the current or two most recent ratings (e.g. if Snell 95 is in production then that, 90 and 85 are legal). We are looking for a Snell M95 or better currently. The club provides loaner helmets for people who do not have one.

Safety Belts: Original safety belts, at a minimum are required. Shoulder belts are not required, if your car did not come with them, but you must have a lap belt. Belts must be firmly attached.

Solidly Mounted Battery: The battery must be held down properly. If it can be moved at all, it will not pass. There are some additional battery requirements which may affect you if you have modified your car. The Tech Inspector will help you out with them.

Legal Tires: In Stock and Street Prepared categories, the tires must have measurable tread, and must be in good condition. Excessive weather checks or visible cord/plies will fail inspection. Tire pressures should be higher than used for the street, usually 45psi-Front/35psi-Rear for a front-wheel-drive car, or 40psi all around for a rear-wheel-drive car.

Brakes: The brake pedal must be firm, with no loss of pressure when held down.

Steering / Suspension: The steering must be tight, with no excessive play. Wheel bearings cannot have excessive play.

Hub Caps and Trim Rings: Hub caps, trim rings and wheel covers must be removed for competition, unless they are bolted to the wheel.

Loose Items in Car: All loose items must be removed from the passenger compartment and trunk. This includes the floor-mats. You may remove the spare tire and jack, but you are not required to if they are properly secured.

Fluid Leaks: Excessive fluid leaks will not pass inspection.

Numbers and Class Markings: The car numbers and class markings should be prominently displayed on both sides of the car in colors that contrast with the paint, and should be large enough to be seen easily from the timing van. White shoe polish for marking windows (comes off with Windex ) is available for people who don't have magnetic or paper numbers.

Adequate Muffler: Your car must be quieter than 95dbA (RLS) measured 50 feet from the course at a place where you are under full throttle. Due to the possibility of losing sites for noise problems, this rule is strictly enforced. (If your car is quiet enough to avoid attracting Police attention, it will most likely pass the noise requirement)

Throttle: Accelerator pedal must have a return spring and operate freely.

Bring your own helmet if you can. No one could pick up our new ones, and the old ones are funky.

What a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice to see at least 5 or 6 rx7's show up. Weird how we ended up in the same team too..all the better. I really want to thank all the members of the BSCC for putting this on and being patient with us. I admit I really sucked when I first got out there. Hey, its my first time. But as the day progressed, so did I. Aside from killing one cone flat out and dragging it 50 ft and knocking over a few in the figure 8, I REALLY enjoyed it! Well worth the $25! Thanks to Jeb and I think his name was Tom. The extremely fast '05 AWD lancer.
