Balance question..

So i just got a rebuilt 78 Repu 13b engine. Its all new, has been dyno'd but thats all its got on it. However i got the engine without a flywheel....... I have a 78repu flywheel, but i am not sure how close it will be to the one that was previously a part of the rotating assembly.. Whats my best bet to use, and not kill my new motor.. And i dont want to take the motor apart to get it balanced with a new one, or am i stuck going that rought?? Help??

You should sell it to me for cheap so you won't have to worry about it.

I believe the 85 and prior 13b's all had the same weight so you could use GSL-SE flywheel/clutch stuff for the rotating stuff. Same interchangability between irons and housings... it was different from 1986 on though. Don't take my words as gold though, get some verification.

All 74-78 13b flywheels are the same according to Mazdatrix. Then 84-85, 86-88, etc. are different. Is your rebuild with repu rotors etc. ? If so your good with the flywheel you have according to all the info I can find. The only concern is if the rotors etc. aren't from the 74-78 13b, then you may need a different flywheel.

As long as the rotating assembly is 74-85, you should be able to use that flywheel. I believe GSL-SE rotors are the same weight, it's just that the flywheel itself is lighter (26 lbs. as opposed to 30 lbs. for the REPU flywheel).

I agree. We used a GSL-SE flywheel on our REPU and it seemed to be just the right weight. Any 74-78 RX-4 or Cosmo flywheel will work just fine, but the SE flywheel is best because it uses a 225 mm clutch.

cool, yeah i have a original repu flywheel on it right now, so i guess i am good to go... Got a comp test on it today and i think its been sitting for a LOOOONG time and the numbers were much lower than i was expecting so i am going to flush it for a while then drop it in and see how it runs, if its a poor runner i will tear it down then rebuild it (with a bridgy of course).... What are everones opinions on porting these earlier engines, plus's and minus's, whats too much, whats not enought..ect... Thanks for the info guys!
