anyone else want to get rid of the front license plate law in washington

While researching some info for a buddy and his vw problems, I ran across this link for changing the law in Washington State with regard to having to run a license plate on both the front and back of the car.

http://www.nofrontplate.org/page.php?5

I hate having a plate in the front of my FD - it looks like crap and doesnt do anything for aerodynamics and air flow into the front of the car.

Motorcycles dont have to have them and the plates are small to read at the same distance you can read a car plate. There are other vehicles that use the road that dont require front plates.

Ever try to read a license plate as the oncoming car is going past you. If a cop flips a bitch to come after you it isnt because you dont have a plate, youve done something else.

Its a waste of money to have both. Lets use those resources where they are really needed.

Most assuredly, but I am in Oregon, and from the research on the subject that I have done there really are few loopholes and even less plausible ones to realistically use.

I cant count how many so called “American performance” cars I see running around without their front plates, and get away with it because they represent the good ol boys club IMO.

I don’t understand why having it in the window should be a problem, but according to law technically nothing can cover it even glass, though I have always wanted to make the argument that transparent air is covering it, how much different is that than glass?
This would seem to be a good compromise, but I believe technically it is a nogo.

It is kind of a unwritten that most will not give you trouble about it, though a few will which really makes it not worth it for me.

I have the RE plateless nose, and duel oilcoolers, and there is NO realestate
on the front of the car for a plate without obstructing the natural flow of the car.
It is ridiculous to think some vehicles have to have it and some don’t, if a motorcycle doesnt have to have one because of the lack of physical area to locate one, my car by the same token shouldn’t have to because it does not have the space to put a plate.

In summation I HATE THE FRONT PLATE LAW!

My front plate is in the windsheild and I got stoped the other day for that and having a crack in the windsheild, man that cop must have been board to death to pull me for those reasons.
I would be down to remove that front plate "law" -keep us updated

Also I never see C5 or C6 vettes with a front plate btw

I've never had a front plate, plus after my FMIC I have nowhere to mount it anymore without f'ing up my bumper, so I say screw the stupid law! I've gotten lucky, the 3 times I've been pulled over for it I've gotten verbal warnings and respect for driving this car! It's awesome.. the cops are more interested in my car than they are giving me a ticket =) Still no tickets in this car =)... If I was a registered voter I'd definitely sign the petition, however I am 100% against politics so I don't vote....

When I lived in Seattle, I was stoped twice for no front plate, once on the freeway by a trooper and once in Samamish by an officer traveling in the oposite lane. I hade it zip tied to the front bumper so it swung back under the bumper at speed. When I got stoped by the trooper it was in RUSH HOUR traffic, now would he have risked getting hit or starting a massive slow down my car was '70 Chevell?? or '69 GTO I am willing to be money that if I were driving one of thoose cars I would have never been stoped!!

The only "reason" that law enforcement can come up with to leave them on the cars is that it provides a target for the speed enforcement guns (either laser or radar), right because the windscreen is just a little to small!!

Here in Arizona it took several years of the same kind of harasing of the government to finally get something on a state wide ballot to remove the front license plate requirment....

It will never get repealed.. Our state seems to get dumber by the day. Look at our Gov and two senitors.
No smoking laws
Seatbelt laws
Emmisions Laws.
DUI laws.
etc
etc
none of them make any ******* sense
we are just a few years behind the liberals in CA

Thats beacuse the C5 and C6 Vettes and a few other cars dont come with front plates. You send away for your plates after you buy the car and the state only sends you the back one. If you look closely at a C5 or C6's nose there is no mounting brackets or area to mount a front plate too. It's jsut a stupid *** law along with about 50 other laws that have gone into effect or have become stricter since that stupid bitch went into the Gov. office.

Does anyone have experience with those fold out of the way at speed plates, and have you ever gotten grief for “improperly affixing” a plate?

I cant count how many plates I have seen barly attached with bailing wire or the likes flapping in the wind.

What is the stance on this issue?

If it is mounted in clear view on the front of the car and the wind happens to fold it out of the way, wouldn’t this qualify as an act of god* ?

I have a similar posting in the 3rd gen forum and sgtblue was pretty informative with the legal aspects pertaining to his state. perhaps he can shed some light on this subject.

Ive thought about a similar system activated with a cable or servo. This would be on a cut down license plate (basically just the numbers and letters). Dont know if that would be legal either, but at least they get the part thats important.

I recently saw an advertisement for a "motorized" front plate but can't remember where I saw it.

I went to the state with a whole package of information on this with my car. I had been pulled over to many times and was tired of dealing with the occasional "fix-it" ticket. I showed how the plate would interfere with the airflow to the motor and showed how it could be seriously damaging the car and such. I took a long time in putting it together. It took the state of WA about 2 days to respond with a letter telling me how I still had to run a front plate. They said about the only way to get things changed was an amendment. After going through all that I made a bracket and used some R/C helicopter parts to fabricate a front plate holder that bolts to the underside of the bumper and allows the plate to swing freely up under the bumper. It works really well, I have been pulled over 1 time for "not having a front plate" since i installed it. I would have to say the reaction when the cop goes and checks for the plate and its there is more then worth the time i put into it. Let me know if anyone wants some pics of the bracket and such. I have not been given a ticket since I installed this.

I got several warnings on it and 1 ticket in the last year, but i did get a sort or plausible excuse from a c- town cop..... he said it was important to have it "especially on my rx7" because it gives them a 50% better chance in finding my stolen car because " these cars get stolen more than i think" haha ok......if you say so

Oh yeah! Like they don't change the plates when they steal the car... Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit they try to bullshit us like we're stupid... How bout we pass an amendment that allows us to harrass them for driving alone in the carpool lane, or exceeding the speed limit, or driving too fast for the conditions, or their cars being illegally modified???

I'll have my attorney draft something up! haha

what i dont get about the plate law is that when you buy collectors plates for your car in washington they only send you one plate for the back.
