AK Anyone From Alaska?

Is there anyone from Alaska on here? I am in the Air Force and got orders to Anchorage. Just trying to see how many rotorheads we have in AK. I also have a friend that got orders there too and he has an RX8. Would like to know and meet some people when I get up there.

I have seen one person from AK post on the NW section before.... crickets chirping after that post. When there is snow on the ground for half the year it would be a sad existance. Even in Seattle I can drive my FC 11 1/2 months out of the year.

I hear there is only snow on the ground for about four months out of the year. I have an SA that I'm building for drifting.

How many events do you guys have in Seattle per year? I'd be interested in coming to a couple throughout the year.

I hear ya on that comment Tweak, not too sure what to think about going to Alaska right now. I hope to be able to get good seat time throughout the year. We'll see.

Preciate it Tweak, I definitely want to work my way to being in the ProAm. Takes a lot of practice and tires, lol.

I like the drift school event that you posted up, I would like to attend that. My main concern is having a track to designated area in Anchorage to be able to drift at. We have one that's not too far from where I'm at now, it's only about an hour and a half away called Mineral Wells, TX.

Miles: It would be fun to drift in the snow which I will probably do, but not much skill involved unfortunately. As far as living there, I kinda don't have a choice, hahahahaha. I'm looking forward to the scenary and the different things that are available, as there isn't much to do in Abilene, TX accept to drive three hours to Dallas and that just gets old and expensive.

Looking forward to continuing the chat with you guys. It's always nice to meet new peolpe and talk about common interests.

i know it doesn't involve much skill, but i enjoy it because its fun going down the street sideways at two miles an hour :p

I've been looking at taking classes too, i want to learn all the technical aspects and get a chance to go to events and do something.

Oh most definitely, I didn't say it wasn't fun. But I'm sure you got that.

As far as the car goes, I'm not quite done with it yet. I hope to have it mostly done before I leave to AK. So far I have stripped down the entire engine bay to bare metal, primed, and painted. Cleaning up the 12A and street porting it, gonna run this sucker until it blows up. I have all of the GSL-SE suspension since mine is an SA. Stripped the interior and got it primed, just haven't painted it yet. It's coming along pretty good though. After the 12A blows up, I already made some custom mounts for a TII swap so that's what's next.

Good luck, and more power to you if you are able to do it, but you have a VERY long, VERY difficult, VERY expensive road ahead of you.

I'm very aware of how expensive it's going to be. That's why I'm going to "try" to make it, no promises though. The ALCAN highway is a long trek, but I'm sure I can do it, with money allowing of course. I really want to see if there is a track or designated area that I will be able to use in AK.

Sorry, I meant drifting an FB, not the actual drive to the track.

LOL, funny guy! It shouldn't be too hard. It was a pain to drift my RX8 that I had. It drifted pretty good in the smaller turns, mainly because lack of horsepower. I'm hoping having the FB stripped and street ported, suspension set up good, and a place to do it, I should be good to go.

Is that the one that goes through BC and Vancouver? I hear that's a nice ride, I have a friend who used to live there and said it was.

I believe so, yes. I've taken both and i think the cassiar is a much more pleasant drive, but there is quite a few less places to stop. so it all depends on what you want to do :p more people, less people, etc etc

I just got a snowmobile/snowmachine a few weeks ago, can't wait for it to start snowing now! Anyone know when it actually starts to snow? I'm planning on riding in the Petersville area or Turnagain Pass. So not necessarily when it snows here in Anchorage. Hope more of you from around the area will chime in.

What's up guys? I'm reviving this thread from the grave. I'm pretty sure I bought Xamnglc's car about a year ago. Looking to see if there are more RX7 owners up here now, or at least on here. I've been up here for just over three years now. There have been quite a few sightings of some up here just haven't seen anyone at meets.

People are here, but as far as people being here as in Alaska, not so much.

So almost 4 years later, how far are you?

I wasn't able to bring the car up here with me. So I'm currently trying to sell it. All that work I put into it, I really hate to let it go but I don't have the funds to ship it up. I bought another FB last year cause I just can't stay away from them, trying to source out parts for it slowly cause Alaska problems and shipping costs. I would like a low pro spoiler for it like I had on my other one, a different front bumper, a Weber carb for it, an LSD since it's GS model, and just other small things. I have a 13B from a '76 RX5 that I want to rebuild and put in there eventually.
