Description:

Hey all, I'm looking for a set of stock FD wheels to replace the chrome ones that came on my car. Only looking for unreinforced wheels with the thinner spokes, see pic for comparison. Would also like a set that doesn't require refinishing/painting.

Local (Houston or Austin) is a huge plus. Reply or PM with what you have, thanks.

You really want a set of the ones that were known to fail? Dang, I threw away a set a year or so ago that had been given to me after one of the four had cracked. I didn’t feel like storing them anymore and couldn’t sell them in good conscious.

I'm sure they will be fine. The car they're going on will barely see potholes, let alone track use. The lightweight FD wheels are some of the lightest factory wheels ever made, very cool item to have. And yes, a lot have been thrown away, unfortunately.

Correct, these lighter wheels are getting more rare. I could part with one set. Willing to ship from San Francisco Bay? I don't know what that costs.

There are several sets of S6 wheels on Yahoo Japan, including a set of first Gen RZ wheels for C$275. Shipping costs are the catch. Before you could get sea mail at $50 a wheel. Lately I have paid C$130~200 for single wheels.

Those RZ wheels would be a catch though. However, I saw a hint in some manual that the RZ version may in fact be steel versions.

I actually bought some vintage Japanese watches on Yahoo Japan (King Seiko 5625-7040 in case anyone is wondering), so I'm not opposed to the idea. Main problem with the Japanese wheels is the shipping costs as you mention, and they come with the wrong center caps (Efini).

^ nothing as long as beat up and abused condition is ok, but you can them like that here and save the shipping fee

I just bought something recently over there and it cost $100 to ship to the USA, but under 1 week delivery. You will likely pay at least that much per wheel for shipping, but likely quite a bit more with the protective packaging option unless you want to chance them being even more beat up and abused.

hope you find some, pretty sure you can without having to order from Japan if you have the luxury of time to be persistently patient …

Yeah, I'm not looking to ship from Japan. The shipping cost and hassle of having to source USDM center caps makes it not worth it.

When is someone going to 3D print those caps?

The Protective Packaging option is wild. I am getting boxes that are 2/3rds bubble wrap.

Kills the economics for many purchases.

Seems you found what you're looking for, but I have a pair of BNIB OEM wheels in my basement. Ebay score from a few years ago, still in the original Mazda boxes. I was shocked when I saw them for sale
