Description:

Rare 1993 Rx-7 R1 for sale.  Has not been driven much in past 10 years and maintained poorly but engine still runs so selling it as a project car/parts. I just replaced the battery and started it up but brakes are not working so can not be driven (i.e. will have to be towed) .  Check engine light is on for error codes:

16 EGR Function Sensor - open or short circuit
40 Solenoid Valve, Purge Control - open or short circuit
It was driveable about 1.5 years ago but due to check engine light I could not get it smogged  and put it on "planned no operation."

Was purchased in 1996 from original owner who purchased in 1992.  They said main driver head had to be replaced so mileage was reset.  They said the mileage in 1996 was ~ 26000 miles.
Will take photos if there is interest.  It was outside in sun with no cover so it is covered in dirt and other debris but even when clean, paint was not good and there were some small dents. Local sale only.

I am getting a lot of ineterest for the car so I am going to take offers until sunday aug 22, and make a decision then based on price/ease of transaction. Ease of transaction is important as I'm in the middle of a move so I can not store the car beyond the end of the month and spend a lot of time on this. It may take me some time to respond to PM's as I'm currently in the middle of a move.

Here are pictures some requested: https://photos.app.goo.gl/uJL8tHkwFs1i6cYc8 ( car is dirty cause i can't drive i out due to the brakes)

Also some more things I thought of that may affect your decision:
1) lock on driver side is sticky (especially when it gets warm outside)
2) engine starts ok cold (see video) but once warm it can get hard to start.
3) there is a clifford alarm installed which I disabled because it was draining the battery. I bypassed the engine cut off in the alarm relay with a wire.
4) sometimes the oil pressure sensor (common issue with rx7s) reads zero. speedometer read zero last time i drove...not sure why.

Hi Robert, I'd like to submit an offer but I can't PM yet due to being a new member to the forum. Is there another way to contact you, such as e-mail?

Hi Guys,
I am still trying to catch up on the messages. Will try to reply this afternoon.

I remember another issue with the car that had popped up before I put it in no operation:

cracked coolant overflow reservoir

so here is the summary of issues i know of:
1) lock on driver side is sticky (especially when it gets warm outside)
2) engine starts ok cold (see video) but once warm it can get hard to start.
3) there is a clifford alarm installed which I disabled because it was draining the battery. I bypassed the engine cut off in the alarm relay with a wire.
4) sometimes the oil pressure sensor (common issue with rx7s) reads zero. speedometer read zero last time i drove...not sure why.
5) leaking/cracked coolant overflow reservoir
and the ones from 1st post
6) brakes not working
7) can't get smog due to check engine lights
8) mileage inaccurate on odometer due to console replacement from original owner before 1996.

Also, yes I have the title. I added pictures of the under carriage.

Whoever gets it should leave it exactly as is.

Not even wipe it down.

Unmolested garage find Porsches are attracting premiums over restored (in some cases).

Some way to find out the original miles will be valuable.

Any service stickers on the door jams?

Hi Everyone,

I created a spreadsheet to help me organize the bids:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

If you made a bid, please make sure your username is there. If not let me know so I can search for your message.

Also, if you were one that requested to see the car and are still interested. Please put your username down in that column so I can check your message.

Also, if you need a response to your message please put your username in the "look at my message?" column.

I'm going to decide earlier so please put in your bid by tomorrow (friday) so I have some time in case things fall through with the first offer to choose the backup.

Thanks,
Robert

If the engine turns over, you can get a compression test. Also very useful info.

(Put new gas in I assume.)

i did not get the old cluster. I have not been able to find the paper signed by the previous owner but i put a picture of the title with the mileage when i got it so you can estimate how much the previous owner may have put on it. She said that there is about a 16k difference in the odometer and that the furthest she ever drove it was from san ramon, ca to monterey, ca. She told me the console replacement was done at a shop in concord which was well known back in the 90's but i forgot the name.

When this is all done, do you think you could post what it sold for?
I totally can't afford to fight people paying cash, but I would like to know what something like this goes for nowadays.

It's got to be worth at least quadruple the asking price on a bad day... If i was close i would be at your door throwing cash at you

We are running a betting pool on the final price, so we will indeed need to know.

Right? I don’t agree with the way this car is being sold. If it’s listed for 4k, it should be sold to the first person offering the asking price. If the car is being auctioned, there should be a clear description and end date.

There's always that one guy that's like "I'll give you $100 more than the last guy"
It used to be whoever showed up first, but not anymore :/

Sorry, First time selling a car. I didn't do my research. My bad. I originally was going to donate and just take the tax write off cause i thought it would be too difficult to find a buyer with the car in this condition and didn't want to have to deal with the hassle. I didn't realize so many people would be interest from outside of the local bay area.

I get that, but he's not displaying bids and judging from his posts, he's also not telling others how much everyone is bidding. Seems like a nice silent auction deal. I can respect that. Place a bid based on what you can afford and feel that the car is worth. He's done a good job of posting plenty of pictures also so I have very little question about the condition of the car.

Maybe "bids" gives the wrong implication. Perhaps "offers" is a better term.
