Description:
My wife bought this car new in 1992. Touring model with the factory spoiler added. It's been used as a daily runner for 30 years by her, in to San Francisco and back, about 30 miles round trip. It's an auto - if you haven't driven an auto RX7 you'd be surprised how well the ratios suit the midrange zoom and of course it's lovely in traffic.
She's spared no expense over the years but the pandemic has meant working from home and it's just not getting used. Which is doing it no favors - we live at the coast and it's no place for a high mileage sports car to live if it's not being used regularly.
It has 251,000 miles on it! Yes really! It certainly doesn't drive like it's got that many miles, it still drives really nicely but living here it's got some surface rust around the rear window that's starting to bubble, and the front of the sunroof has a nasty little patch, although even with that it still seals perfectly. No salt roads here, so it's just those spots that will eventually need some work.
Other than that it's just got general wear and tear - the drivers side inside door panel is well used and the driver's seat leather has a split - the rest of the interior is sweet. The stereo is original Bose but the wiring worked loose years ago behind the head unit. Wiper motor is very lazy. The AC compressor died a few years ago but we don't need it here so we got Hector (below) to bypass it. There's a very small weep from the turbo return line that doesn't affect the oil level - you only notice it if it sits for a few weeks when it burns off on the exhaust. It can take a second or two to start sometimes if it’s not been used recently, but the engine runs well.
Each time it's needed something we've spent whatever was needed - initially at a dealer and then at PR Motorsports in Hayward where Hector the rotary magician took care of it the last 15 years. We had a very trusting relationship with PR and Hector.
They closed down mid-pandemic, which gives us another reason to pass it on to someone who'll love it.
Here's a list of the major expenses over the last several years - we've got receipts back to 1992!
Tires at 234,000 miles
Battery 2022
All Rotors 2021
Rear Calipers 2021
Drive Belts 2019
Alternator 2018
Brake Lines 2018
Fuel Tank 2017
Sway Bars 2015
All Struts (Tokiko) 2012
Engine Mounts 2012
Engine 2009 (at 215,000 miles)
Power Steering Pump 2008
Full Respray 2008
Turbo 2008 (at 205,000 miles)
Transmission 1997 (at 103,000 miles)
What you'll be buying is a car you can drive home and enjoy, and tinker with to bring it up to really good quality without needing to spend loads on the big stuff.

GoodfellaFD3S no, the first engine was replaced around 20 years ago so this is the third. I guess that’s pretty average for these?
The turbo is (I think) the third, too. From memory the first went around 2000.
There’s a giant mountain of receipts but I figured the most important ones are the most recent ones. Hector at PR Motorsports did the last ones and we noticed the difference having a specialist work on these instead of a Mazda dealer.
Really happy you guys are in to it, we’d like to see a proper enthusiast enjoy it.
I’ll be back in a day or two.
Cheers all,
Alan.

It’s going to the first member who contacted me offering to buy it for the price we wanted.
Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be done?

I’m just a random guy with a wife who still has a car she bought 30 years ago, I don’t care about palace intrigues or who feels wronged by whom.
