Would like some input on exhaust

Ive done some reading about exhaust on N/A' and such and they somewhat need an expansion chamber and only certain headers do this that and the other...
Currently my car has a "new" exhaust, starting with looks to be 2 1/4" from the manifold through 2 welded on cats, then a leaky flange before the Y pipe into 2" piping. And what looks to be the stock mufflers (rusty). One muffler is crooked....

For now im going to fix the leak if possible, but soon i want to replace the whole exhaust and make one of my own.

Starting with the stock manifold to 2 3/4" piping to single flange type cat (to run a test pipe) to a resonator (as the expansion chamber) right after the cat flange. Now im undecided on if i want to run a single or dual. If it where a single i would continue to run it 2 3/4" all the way to a flowmaster hush power on the end. Dual the same route but 2 1/2" from the Y back.

Thanks for reading and let me know what you think.

Honestly if you are keeping the stock manifold, what you do for the rest of the exhaust matters very little. The real restriction is the manifold.

But keep this in mind: A single exhaust with only one resonator will be way too loud. Mazda used a dual exhaust to keep the flow up while keeping the noise down. If you are going to run a single, you need at least two good resonators.

My personal opinion is that single exhaust always make the car look like one side fell off. Most of the time, they are also stupidly loud.

Here is a vid of my car. Exhaust is stock manifold to 2.25" single straight pipe to magna flow muffler. No resonator or cats or anything.

to give you a idea im running a RB header to RB pre-silencer here is the tricky part cat back im running 2 1/2 inch piping to a 3inch vibrant ultra quiet resonator back to a 2 1/2 inch than to a 3inch corksport muffler its not to loud and not to quiet just right. big gain on performance

ok cool have some decent input. Run duals, maybe a header with a single collector. The RB looks spendy and no collector... Im still kinda skeptical about mufflers, i dont like can style mufflers because there ricey haha. Basically want a deep tone, i might run a chambered muffler... unsure now. cherry bomb has a straight through chamber/glassback muffler may look into that. Or supertrapp to adjust sound to my liking.

13b's run too hot for glasspacked mufflers.

Honestly it is hard to make FCs sound ricey. No matter what the exhaust an FC as a very distinguishable tone. My opinion.

I've had glass packed mufflers on my car for 11 years, no issue.

Quality parts are what matters, not what they are packed with. My resonator is stainless packed and it needs to be due to high EGTs, but the mufflers out back can be glass packed if they are of good quality.

If you want a deep tone, I suggest this:

-headers
-Vibrant resonator of appropriate diameter
-Vibrant Ultra-Quiet resonator of appropriate diameter
-Quality dual tip rear muffler, straight through design

It will be subdued and not annoyingly loud, yet roar near redline.

I have a similar setup on my car, but importantly I have a turbo instead of the first resonator. Here's an idea of what I consider to be a nice sound:

the main issue i have is the actuation of the 5th and 6th ports when you throw on an exhaust. Kinda why i wanted to keep the stock manifold. I may do some more searching on rigging up the ports to stay open and what not. ALSO im not sure which header to go with either.

The exhaust manifold has nothing to do with the aux ports. Keeping it is just a waste of a good exhaust.

Use the air pump to actuate the ports.

RB makes nice headers.
