NJ window regulator self install

I recently purchased a power window regulator for my 1991 mazda rx7 convertible. How hard is it to mount this piece myself? If its possible to self install it, I would be saving a lot of money avoiding a mechanic.

I guess the answer would depend on how mechanically inclined you are. It's not that time consuming, but it can be somewhat of a hassle. The glass must be partially down to be able to remove the mounting hardware & window stops, then once the glass has been removed from the top, you'll have to remove the regulator/motor assembly through the largest opening in the door. It's a tight squeeze. When everything is reassembled, some adjustment of the mount and stops will be needed to make sure the window seals properly at the top.

You say leave glass in then you say take out. It can stay in to remove the regulator. I am having trouble getting new one in and can't line up the motor with its mounting holes. It would be nice if I could see what I was doing.

When I bought the car the drivers regulator was broken and the window glass was propped up by a block of wood.

Tell me where I say the glass must be left in? Read the post again. Removing the window will make getting the regulator assembly in/out a hell of a lot easier. There won't be a need for a block of wood jammed inside to hold the glass up.

This says take glass out. but it is not needed to replace regulator. I just can not get the motor back in and lining up. Remember this is convertible so window mechanism is different to sedan.

I never said I put a 2x4 in. I said the previous owner did and left it in to keep window up as he only drove with top down.
