I have an 88 fc and my sunroof doesn't work at first I thought it was the sunroof motor so I replaced it but it still won't work when I press the button you can heard the motor trying to open it but the it grinds I check the lil gear on the motor and it's good I dont know what it could be... It's summer I wish I can open my sunroof lol

most likely the cables are gummed up and preventing the roof from moving.
It's a real Snot bag to get them to freely move without having to disassemble half of the sunroof assembly.

So practically I just need to open that clean it and put it back on? You think that would be hard?

Well I've done a couple of them and I can tell you the hardest part is ripping the interior to take the assembly down without breaking anything.
After that it is gravy.

I didn't take the assembly apart though..I "don't do that"..lol.I hate stuff like that!
..I just bought another one that actually works and installed it.

Sometimes the problem is the seal around the sunroof. When it gets old or dirty it tends to jam up the roof. If the seal looks OK, try cleaning the seal and then lubricate it with lithium grease.

Ya,Evil is right in that aspect also.
You can always try to Hit the back and front of it to nudge it up and out of the "pocket" while pressing the button, just to see if it will move.
A couple of mine had a "WTF Moment" at times where it would just stall out and then you nudge it and it would continue opening.
Funny my best operating sunroof is in the N/A car I am selling.(too far for an advertisement ..lol!).
I should switch it out to my TII..(great!,now MORE stuff to do!)
