What's the deal with my FD firewall? Need some insight!

Hey guys,

Well this is my first real introduction post. My name's Matt, im in Arkansas and in the near future I'm going to start a ground up FD build that I will make a complete build post at that time, but for now, I need some insight on what's been done to the firewall of the FD I just bought. I bought the silver car from pinkston in his FS thread where the idiot tried to swap in a SR20...
It looks like a stock engine bay as far as I can tell except for the obvious firewall modifications. So here are some pics of mine followed up by a couple I found of a factory firewall. From what I've read, it seems like there is the normal firewall that you see and then a couple people have said that there is actually a dead air space then ANOTHER interior firewall on the FD. What I'm thinking is that maybe this guy just cut out the outermost layer, leaving only the interior layer... the reason I'm guessing that is because the seams seem to have that weird factory paste bonding the panels if you know what I mean. But then there's those gaps in the corners that I don't think the factory would leave. but I could be wrong. Let me know what you think and look forward to some of my posts/questions in the future! thanks alot guys.

Is the HVAC still in the car? No way thats factory, the cowl at the top looks rounded by a hammer. If they took the A/C out to do that it may not go back in.
