What to do swap..
What to do swap..
1987 n/a fc3s So currently I have a 26 year old n/a fc3s 13b.. Now, I want to get some more power for the track/drift and just also as a daily driver .. Now I'm between a lot of different choices... 13b turbo swap , Sr20 turbo swap, 1jz/2jz swap or a v8 (don't really want v8) .
The costs of doing a turbo 13b swap is about 1200-1400 for motor trans ecu and turbos, or I can look into pulling motors from a junk yard and rebuilding them, as well the 13b turbo will have to be rebuild which is another 600-800$ if I do it my self. So I'm in a sticky spot, ideas? Thanks!

i let this thread in even though it's not really a technical thread. please do not make me regret it. this sounds more like you're looking for advice and research (searching) could probably answer many of the questions you may have now or the near future.
many have tried. few have succeeded. pulling off the whole street AND track thing is not easy. you have some serious research to do and decisions to make. as you said, it's a 26 year old car it will need building from the ground up to make it stock, much less track-worthy.
doesn't sound like anything money can't fix ... and you're going to find you'll need it no matter what engine you choose.
make sure you realize that a rebuild may be necessary for ANY one of your choices. also, conversions cost EXTRA money if you're not a fabricator yourself. so keep that in mind, too.

I just finished my n/a to turbo II swap and have never attempted this type of work before. It took me 1 year in total (last fall 1 month, this fall 1 month) and I dont regret it at all. If you read my posts ( dave 1986 from Ontario n/a swap to turbo II ) you can see some of my hurdles. It was not that difficult, mostly plug and play and you will learn alot about the engine and how it ticks. It has way more power than before, I mean way more.... So my advice for a beginner is the turbo swap, just saying. Good luck, it was alot of fun also.

you get a "known good working engine" with the appropriate turbo pieces(like ECU,AFM etc) and I am local and have done it before..(BUT I do not dabble in Rebuilds..Never did,no room)
That's two important pieces..haha..right there!
If you can cook..I work cheap.

The 13b turbo is probably your best bet if you want something easy, 1J / 2j / SR20 you have to be good at wiring as well as fabricating. The sr20 you'll need to make an oil pan in addition to mounts. Most people go standalone when doing this as well so that's an additional 1000 give or take plus tuning and wiring. I ve researched doing a swap like this ALOT and realized it aint easy by any means just cause it fits doesn't' mean its easy. Good luck hope to see more on it
Thanks all! I think just sticking with the 13b turbo swap will prove best, and sorry wasn't quite sure where to place this thread dunno when I can post out of the noob zone lol.!!
