Question What do all the trim levels mean?

Hey all, was looking into getting a FD rx7 and I keep seeing names thrown around touring, R1, R2, SSM, etc what do these all mean? I'm pretty sure they are all trim levels but what comes with them? All I know I touring has the Bose speakers and a sunroof, and the R1 doesn't have a sunroof? What else can you tell me?

Take an evening...or two, and read through the FAQ sticky for the 3rd Gen from the top of this section https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...faq-fd-782404/ Particularly the 'B' for "Buying a RX7".
Quick and dirty....
R1 was a 93 designation, R2 was 94 and 95 designation for essentially the same car. The R models were more performance/track spec coming equipped with dual oil coolers, front shock tower braces and devoid of things like the sunroofs (which lower head room a bit), rear wipers, BOSE etc. They also came with Alcantara seats instead of leather. Base, Touring (in 93) and PEP...Perferred Equipment Package were the others.

SSM is Silver Stone Metallic, a color code.

All your other questions are addressed in that sticky which also has a glossary at the end.

Thank you, I'll read that now, and that's pretty funny it's just a color code, I see it on alot of classifieds and figured it was a trim level haha

trim level - n.
1. A specific package of optional parts and/or paint that adorned a brand new car 20+ years ago prior to the car's many owners swapping them out for different parts and/or paint.
2. An alphanumeric marketing gimmick, typically applied to the exterior of a car as chrome characters or colored stickers, designed to increase the sale value of a new or used car without regard to any intrinsic or practical value.

trim level:
1. A designation assigned at the factory denoting certain optional parts or purpose for the car that make it more desirable to the owner. A sub-model or designation that if born out in the VIN number can make a significant difference in that car's value, even decades later.
2. A designation, or lack thereof, that can lead to buyer's cognitive dissonance.
