What to add with CAI

I'm looking to add a Spectre CAI on my 91 na comvertible. I'm trying to figure out if I need to replace the MAF or if I need to add on a performance computer to properly adjust the new air flow readings.

What do I need to add in conjuction with a CAI to get the desired performance? I've heard just tossing on CAI's with nothing is pretty much pointless.

I assume by "CAI" you just mean a cone filter or a filter and some sort of metal tube? There's nothing you need to do with the AFM. The airflow measurements are not really going to change, and even if they did, the AFM's cone allows the system to be dynamic. Hopefully you also have some kind of sealed box or ducting to actually allow outside air into the intake; otherwise you'll make a hot air intake. The stock system is not restrictive on an NA, and is an actual "cold air intake" since it draws air through the bumper opening.

Was just refering to cold air intake. So... basically I don't need to change the air filter box over to a Cold air cone? I kind of assumed that boxes are more restrictive than a cone. So basically, I could just add that kit on there with the new piping and cone and i'l have to run a hose or something close to my front bumper to pull outside air flow on it?

what i did is threw on a cone to the maf threw it on the stock intake tube and eventually built a custom cold air box arounf my cone to fend off any unwanted hot air. and instead of piping any tubes to it i just put a headlight cover with a vent in it on the side with the intake. brings air directly to my intake. the KN air filter was 80$ and the headlight cover was 70$ and i just used sheet metal from arounf thehouse to make the cold air box.(u can also buy a KN air box comes with a cone and the piping and the box to keep the hot air away) also known as a mariah cold air box and cost about 165-180$ depending on shipping. if u have the money do the mariah airbox.

That's a nice set up, I think I'll go ahead with a Mariah box. Actually seems like it leaves a lot of room as well. With your custom setup which seems identical, did you notice some improvements when you added that? It seems like this set up would be even better than a standard cone with a air hose leading to it because it's as far away from the engine as possible, not to mention shielded from heat and all spare air has no where to go.

Thanks for advice as well, much appreciated.

i made a setup identical to the mariah closeout but also have the stock "snorkel" to draw air from the stock place.
also if you have the airpump get a small filter and put it outside the closeout, idk but it was simpler.

i noticed that without the shield on hotter days it was running real boggy and on cooler evening and morning it was real crisp and jittery(nice and stiff at the peddle) so since adding it those hot days arnt bogging me out anymore.
