Water temp switch
I was replacing belts today on my 88 vert. I recently purchased the car and do not know specifics about the history. I has an alum rad, and I would assume that is not stock. I noticed that a sensor on the lower drivers side of the rad was unplugged, and appears to have been that way for a while. The manual calls it a temp switch for the ECU. Any thoughts on why it would be unplugged and what affect that will have. The car appears to be fine and it does not look like the wires have been cross to each other so it is just an open circuit at this point. Thanks

When the engine has coolant fluid above a certain threshold and the car is started cold it would normally rev up to close to 3000 rpm initially. The sensor you make mention of measures the coolant temp so as to tell the ECU to implement the high rev cold start function or not. If the two wires to the plug were jumpered it would simulate a radiator w/coolant above 63F and cause the high rev cold start while and unplugged sensor, such as yours, would never activate this system.

Kinda what I thought. You saved me much research, thank you. I will plug it up and see what happens, and if I don't like it I will unplug it again. Life was so much simpler with carbs and manual chokes.
