MN Vintage J&S Knock Sensor

Hey all,

My 93 came with a vintage J&S knock/afr sensor. Does anyone have any documentation or knowledge as to how well these things worked? The way the gauge behaves makes me think that it's just spliced off the narrowband signal as it really only reads rich or lean. I've also never seen the thing knock, which I suppose would make sense given all the supporting upgrades (radiator, M2 intercooler & airbox, downpipe) & the fact that the car is running stock boost. Is there a decent way to check if it's working without having to induce knock?

Thanks,

^^ Worthless for this application. Knock sensors are better suited for piston engines as they can experience a knock or ping and be fine. With a rotary it is a death sentence and that's why we use widebands. As they tell us how close we are to dangerous conditions.

Thanks!

Yeah I'll probably be ripping it out over the winter & putting in an AEM Failsafe (had one on my old turbo Miata setup and loved it).

Cheers
