AB Type of brake fluid to use???

Hey guys I have been searching and searching to the answer for this question which is...

-First, how can i tell if it's synthetic fluid or non-synth??

-second, I was told you cannot mix synth and non-synth (true or false)? but you can mix like dot 3 with 4...

-and third, the original brake fluid from factory was dot 3 non-synth right?

Yeah, cause i need to add fluid because it's very low but i dunno how to tell whats in there at the moment.

Why not just replace your system with all new brake fluid?
then it won't matter.....

if your in calgary i could help you do a full flush, but im going to assume your in edmonton. i used dot 3 synthetic and it went well with the full flush. i believe that dot 4 is hygroscopic which means it absorbs water from the atmosphere which can reduce performance and lower the boiling point in a huge way. this is why i chose dot 3 synthetic.

as for mixing them im not sure that i would as they have different properties and different boiling points aswell as different viscosities, especially silicon and glycol as they will trap moisture and cause internal corrosion

dot 5 on the other hand is not recomended for abs systems so i wouldlnt use dot 5 if you have the stock abs unit and also shouldnt be used in systems previously filled with dot 1 2 3 or 4 systems as they contain moisture in the systems

which leads me to the next thing, as a general statement brake fluid is not a 'top-up' fluid meaning if you are leaking brake fluid it is the beginning of alot bigger problems if the leak is not found, so its good to re top it up but please for your safety and passengers find the problem and fix it.

Well i bought the car about like 2-3 months ago and it was like that when i got it so i dunno.. :S but yeah a full flush would be awesome im pretty noob at this stuff though so what would i all need just fluid thats it???

I would love your help though for sure, how can i tell if its leaking?? Because im pretty sure it was the same level 3 months ago as it was today until i "topped" it up.

Thanks man.
