two quick questions
As a 3000GT owner the first thing everyone assumes is that 1: they're tanks and 2: they're incredibly unreliable. Contrary neither is true with good care.
Basically my Q is, if fairly well maintained, are RX7s as much of a nightmare as people have them cracked up to be? My philosophy is if you treat it right it'll treat you right but then again who knows lol.
Secondly what is good highway fuel economy on stock or lightly modified rotarys?
I'm trying to get an FD for daily driving for the next two years of college, stock exterior so it doesn't scream "Steal me!" lol and then after college and actual job life comes into play it'll get it's well deserved ground up rennovation . No way am I driving my cars into Newark NJ every day for NJIT lol.

A properly maintained rotary will last you like any other car would. Some people even get the na 13bs to the 200K mile mark. It's all about how you take car of the car. With the fd you are going to want to do some cooling upgrades such as a good radiator, to my knowledge the twin turbos put out alot of heat. I don't know much about fd mileage but my fc TII gets about 20mpg avg.

Ya, cooling upgrades will help for sure, and if you don't go too crazy on the performance aspect (which is very hard to resist). The preventative maintenance is the key, just always keep the oil topped up, and an eye on the coolant level. The reason that they're labeled with the unreliable stamp is because people that treat them like civics blow them up. You have to warm them up, and keep up on the inspections. I do checkups all the time on my TII, making sure everything's functioning properly, and that all belts/ vacuum lines are in check and AFR's are where they should be. As long as you're always conscious of it's health, you'll be alright. Join the club!

my old 3000GT was the best handling car i've 'ever' driven! i mean that. i also know how i drove it...like a scalded dog. don't drive your rx7 like that...and you'll be fine for a good 200,000. just do like the guy above me said...keep a good eye on all your fluids and things. anything seems off, find out what it is and fix it right away. or don't drive it until you do. you don't want major issues because of a small malfunction or a quart too low of oil or something dumb like that. haha. an fd huh?...i'm jealous.

I figure I want to find an FD that needs cosmetic tlc, paint etc, and a solid power plant inside so I can thoroughly enjoy it and then once I'm out of school and I have no fears of anyone stealing it or anything, finish the cosmetic work. Ya know, daily a full sleeper for a while
