twin dizzy
twin dizzy
Hey all new to rotary's and definitely new to having two distributors. I have a 72 rx2 sedan (the only way to roll) that I love driving. It starts almost always and looks great/stock. My problem is the ignition, I feel like its running on the least amount of spark required and I would like to improve upon that. The current system looks to be completely original. I have scanned the forums and cannot find any clear plans for any sort of direct fire or any other mods for the twin distributors.???
Any advice, leads (pun intended), or other ideas would be great.
Thanks,jB

Direct fire on the twin dizzy setup is harder because it is a points setup. All the direct fire stuff is based upon the newer electronic dizzy, which of course there is no way to retrofit on a twin dizzy setup without a front cover swap.
The only thing I can suggest off the top of my head is to get an ignition box (Crane, MSD) designed to trigger from points, one for each dizzy. Then just hook it up in the normal way with an aftermarket coil on each. You can probably skip the trailing as the leading does all the work.

Still dizzy
Thanks for all the help and links you all sent. The FSM is awesome and glad to have that in my arsenal now. But,,, what I am really looking for is the performance mods that some have made to there twin distributor setups. any such hope?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Contact MSD for information on how to hook up 1 or 2 MSD 6A or 6AL's using your stock distributor sets.
MSD's should smooth-out the bumps in your power curve.
They were very helpful in my conversion on a '79 Rx-7 with a dual-point distributor system.

I've only ever seen a twin dizzy once, on a Cosmo Sport.
