Wink Turbo upgrade advice

i got a 88 turbo II
got boost guage and rb full exhaust
got a/f meter.
got turbo timer
got greddy boost controller.
i think im ready for a bigger turbo, i was thinking about buying a GT35R off of ebay for about 300 bucks and swap it on because i believe its same flange and its water and oil cooled just like stock. and then get it tuned at a shop. sound good or will blow up in a ball of fire?

Nope.It's not that easy.

The New Turbo is either a T3 or T4 flange and the Mazda's turbo has a proprietary flange.Meaning that they are specific to the car series and the exhaust manifold.(s4 and s5 turbo has a different flange)
So let's give you a quick "schoolin"

Cheap turbo?,you get what you pay for..

Change turbo to OTHER Than a stock turbo:
Turbo
Manifold to FIT turbo.(stock manifold won't work and there is no place for an external wastegate)
Wastegate.
INJECTORS,you are gonna need more fuel
downpipe to fit the turbo.

ECU TO CONTROL all that extra power and control fuel,etc..
The Stock ECU will not work with major mods like a BIG *** Turbo.

Suggestions?.Big cup of coffee and some reading in the Build Section to see what others are running.Stuff that is Working for them.

This will not be cheap.and if you plan on Cheap.then it won't last.

normally gt35r's are around 1400$ new, if you want something that will bolt on consider a hybrid turbo( bnr makes premade hybrids for our vehicle)
you will still need a tune so your stock ecu will need to be changed for one of the many aftermarket systems.

do not ever buy ebay turbochargers, certain things you can go the cheap route, not a main part of the engine. 1400$ is a lot cheaper for a quality turbo then getting another turbo and a new engine because the cheap one blew up and ate your engine.

I'm with nepopolus on this one. I doubt it is a real Garrett GT35R at that price since they sell for about $1,200+ new. More likely it is a cheapie Mexican or Chinese knock-off. Were it my car, I would rather stick with the stock turbo vs. installing a junk turbo.

Plus...
Air filter to fit new turbo
Upgraded fuel pump
Upgraded clutch and pressure plate
Upgraded radiator
Upgraded oil pressure regulator
Front-mounted intercooler and plumbing, and will probably also want an aftermarket BOV

Plan on $5K-10K for parts and labor.

If you want something cheaper, then I recommend:
BNR upgraded hybrid turbo
Rtek7 ECU Upgrade
Upgraded fuel pump
Upgraded fuel injectors
Upgraded radiator
Upgraded clutch and pressure plate
Upgraded oil pressure regulator
Optional: Front-mounted intercooler kit and/or water injection.

You can sell your turbo timer and FCD to help fund the project.

You're better off keeping the stock turbo. From the looks of it you're not ready to go bigger given your projected budget. I just sold my bike so I might buy a GT35R that's about $1300.00+Turblown manifold around $800 and a adaptronic ECU $1300.

If you're on a budget and want more power start out with an Rtek ECU, around $300-$500 and add a BNR turbo which is bolt on to the stock manifold, expect to pay $400-$800 depending on stage.

How much HP are you wanting and just a heads up that GT35 is bad news man try and stay away from eBay unless the prices and item are matched up and its a retailer. You will bay more in the end buy some random china turbo then buying the real deal because you will be replacing china turbos left and right plus if you buy a authentic turbo or parts they come with a warranty always a plus. Garrett's are great turbos and so are Borg Warner. Borg Warner are the best bang for our buck and Garrett turbos are just bad ***.

It needs to be specified that the Garrett GT35R Turbo is great. The Knock offs are crap.
