Transmission went out on my 89 vert, need to know which 5-spd transmission will fit.
as the title says, the automatic trans on my 89 vert just went out and i really want to do a 5-spd swap, will any FC trans fit?

Basically, any transmission will fit. But the easiest swap is an S5 5 speed.
If you intend to start making some power (more than 250 HP) then going to a turbo transmission would be ideal. You'll also need the turbo flywheel, starter, clutch stuff, slave cylinder, and either the driveshaft and differential with half shafts, or a custom driveshaft to connect the TII transmission to the NA rear end.
If you are just basically keeping the car stock, then the NA transmission will be fine. You still need the machine flywheel, clutch stuff, starter and driveshaft
Additionally, regardless of which transmission you go with, you will need to either use a lightweight flywheel (not really that nice on street cars) or swap the front counterweight with one from a matching engine year of 5 speed.
Also because the factory transmission mounts on the body were different for 5 speed vs. auto cars, you'll either need to drill out the spot welds and move the mounts, or create your own transmission mount to match up.

Its probably just going to stay mostly stock, auto/5-spd starters are different? driveshaft's too huh?
Whats the front counterweight? is that like a harmonic balancer/damper or something?
And thanks very much for the info!
And I assume just some simple wiring to the inhibitor switch to tell the ECU its in park or something so I can start it right?

The starters are different as are the shafts. Basic rule with RX-7 transmissions is that the clutch, starter, flywheel, driveshaft and related must match the transmission.
The front counterweight is literally the counterweight on the eccentric shaft under the front cover to balance out both ends of the engine. It is lighter with the automatic because it has a flex plate instead of a heavy flywheel.
