transmission compatibilities...

Hi,

So I have a 12a engine with a 4 speed trans and I'd like to use a trans from an 86-92 2nd gen. will it pair correctly or are there modifications that I have to make? if so what are they?

is it safe to assume you have an SA/FB? i'm also assuming that you're talking about the N/A transmission. you will have to correct me if i'm wrong.

as you may or may not know, all Mazda rotaries have the same bolt pattern. so you're good for bolting it to your engine. at the other end, i know some people make them work as is, but i can't say i'm up on the details of how. i also know some people swap tail housings to make them work.

yeah the 12a is out of an '80 rx7 and the trans is from an 87 N/A. so the bolt pattern is the same but will the starter still line up? and are the splines going from the trans to the engine the same?
