Tire options for a 15x7 with an offset

I have a 87 GXL red and I just got a great deal on a set of gold 15x7 wheels. I put the wheel on the car and they stick out about an inch or so. I have a set of coilovers to lower the car but I was wondering what size tire I should run. I am kind of going for the stretched tire look. I was thinking about a 185/55/15 any ideas would be great pics would be even better.

Thanks new member long time rx-7 fan

the tire size you meantioned would work pretty well. i have 4x7 wheels with a zero offset sittting on 195 60 14 and they look alright, could go lower profile but other wise look good.

185 is small.
you'd be looking around a 205 or 215.
..BUT,if the tire and wheel is sticking out an Inch, you are gonna have problems anyways.
You should have checked Offset before purchasing the wheels.the Stock offset is 40.

Exactly what you said. A lot of people dont consider offsets (some dont even know what they are) when purchasing wheels. Your coilovers aren't really gonna help much as far as clearing the fenders at this point, since you said they stick out an inch. You must have gotten a pretty low offset wheel because its only a 7inch and its sticking out. You can run some crazy camber if you want, but your car wont be to functional or safe. But for a 7inch width, I'd probably go with a 205 tire

Well i sold the 87 gxl and picked up 88 vert in great shape. I used the same wheels and got 4 175/55/15 tires for a smart car. Lowered the car about 2 inches and it looks great. I could not ask for a better stance. Thanks for the help.
