timing issue

Hello I own a first generation rx7 and have a question reguarding the timing being 180 degrees off. If the timing is in fact 180 degrees off how would that affect the engine as far as what would the indications would be? I can time the primary side but cannot get enough travel to time the secondaries. Also the engine backfires until it is warmed up.the engin does emit some smoke until warm up .and leaving the gas cap loose seems to help with the smoke. also I have a vacume hose the runs from the front ( second counting from the back) of which I only have two. These are located on the top of the engine about midway between the alternator and te rear of the engint right on top of the engine any help would be much appreciated. Wirelesswally
