ID TII idle questions

Hello everyone thanks for looking.

I have an 87 TII. When I cold start it revs like normal and starts to heat up. As it drops revs to about 1200 and starts to bounce up and back down. This is my first hands on RX7. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TY

One thing you want to try is to adjust the TPS so its Green/Red wire reads 1 volt w/key to on. The engine needs to be full warmed up before adjusting the TPS so an idling rpm of 750 to 800 or so is needed. The throttle linkage at the front of the throttle body has a screw encased in an inch long spring. This is the TPS adjustment screw. Again, engine needs to be completely wamed up and the key needs to be on and the adjustment needs to be done before the engine has a chance to cool down.

how can you tell if the tps is 1 volt or w.e it is could you explain or give steps on how to do this? i have found a rx7 and this is in the description..

"1986 Mazda rx7, Has a crate motor with 3000 mile on it, Car turns on but won't stay on unless you keep your foot on gas. I was told could be tps switch . New spark plugs wires, spark plugs, change seals on injectors , new battery, when i brought it was not running vacuum lines were hooked up wrong "

any suggestions? sorry for going on here but i see it has something to do with my problem.

What you quoted satch on, was instructions on how to check the TPS. You'll need a multimeter to test it.

Perhaps the car doesn't have a BAC valve and needs the idle adjusted. What other syptoms does the car have? Where did this engine come from? Can they prove it is a "crate engine"? There are plenty of questions to be asked... And more information to be presented.

Multimeter set to dc volts. Since this car won't run normally you would have to release the upside down screw on the back of the throttle linkage related to the Fast Idle Cam so the throttle linkage which rests up against the TPS plunger thinks the car is idling at 750 rpm. The upside down screw that rests against the Thermowax needs to be pushed fully downward to get the TPS throttle linkage into proper position. Chances are in your case it is something else like clogged injectors or a failing fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter or fuel sock in the fuel tank or injector wires running to the wrong injectors or a vacuum leak or a faulty AFM and so on.

If you has access to a series specific factory service manual (FSM) that would help you out A LOT. The online FSM links in the FAQ thread have been down for a little while. I bought my 87' FSM years ago... I love that thing.
