Tie rod install 1993 FD3S
Hey everyone, need some help on replacing my tie rods. I bought brand new inners and outers. How many turns of the outer tie rod do I do once it is threaded onto the new inner? Any difference depending on ride height? Or suggestions? Thanks!

The way I replace the outer Tie rods is to crack the threads(loosen the rod from the moveable joint).
NOTE the turns that it takes to get the outer tie rod off the rod itself..(ie: it took 12 turns to get the old outer tie rod off the threads)
That gives you close to what alignment you had to begin with.
If you do this then you know the "measurement" needed to put the Outers on.
The Inners should just thread in so you don't need to worry too much on those.
Put the inners on the rack then put the Outer tie rods on( Ie: again That so called 12 turns),hook up to the assembly and Presto.
Doing it this way you should be good to go.

I initially did exactly your method but lost the paper I had written it on. I think I remember in my head what it was. Is there a measurement I could do? Are both sides the same usually or different? Thanks!

They are usually the same amount of turns +/- a couple. One thing you can do it put i all together, but don't put the nuts on the outer tie rods, put the tires on and drop the car and visually look at the tires alignment. Get them as straight as you can, if anything have them both go inwards JUST ever so slightly. Than after you get that, put everything back together and bring it in for an alignment
