Thanks to everyone that helped me with my crab rebuild it was a complete success! The car purrs like a kitten now.

Now i can focus on the fun stuff and the little things!

So now that she is running great i have been driving around and noticing that there seems to be a hesitation at around 5000 rpm. In fact i cant seem to get it to redline, even if i wanted to. My understanding is that rotaries like to be redlined and should be on occasion(from what i have read, may or may not be true) and i never ever drive her hard till she warms up.

But as soon as i hit around 5000 rpm it seems to not lose power but just top out. like it cant get anymore juice or something. I realize there could be a wide array of problems. Where is the best place to start? Is this common?

Should i start with vacuum lines, or fuel or what.

Fuel filter restriction or the carb's secondaries aren't opening...I researched the same problem on my car and it turns out there's a little linkage tab that likes to fall off so that the secondary butterflies never open.

Anybody got the pic or thread handy? I'm burning through the Mod board right now clearing out the New Member submissions, clearing Classifieds and watching our Texas Rangers game.

Search for the term "teeter totter" and you should find it.

Definitely replace the fuel filter. I would also put a can of Seafoam in the gas tank (don't try to such it in through a vacuum line or get fancy with it, just dump it in the gas tank).

If that doesn't clear it up, you might have to pull the jets and clean them out.

Thanks for the info guys .. very helpful. I have not done the seafoam yet. actually i have heard mixed reviews and was always cautious about seafoam, glad to have someone knowledgeable tell me its good to use. Also checked the linkage and it seems okay. I cleaned the jets when i rebuilt the carb. i am very meticulous whenit comes to cleaning parts. Just got out of the car and i have to say after driving it a few weeks it seems to be opening up alot more now, first time i actually got to up there with no hesitation on any gear. Is it possible i just needed to drive it a bit? Work out the kinks? so to speak. I will drive it again tomorrow to see if it was a fluke or if its good now. Also i will change the fuel filter and do the seafoam. Is there any particular fuel filter you recommend for a stock system?

Stock filter works fine. Buy 2 and keep one in the glove box. As for the Seafoam, full can in 1/8-1/4 tank of fuel, go out and run it firmly. Don't be afraid of hitting redline. Rotaries run rich and build carbon deposits faster than boingers. Blowing out the carbon on a regular basis is good for a rotary. High rpms and Seafoam works quite well.
