FL Temperature Issue?

Okay, I have '93 FD, twin turbo'd, non ls swapped. I blew my radiatior hose about a week back (had about a quarter in. tear in it), and last night, I changed out the radiatior hose (mishimoto), and put coolant/antifreeze in the car. I'm not sure the actual capacity of the tank, but I did try to put as much as I could in. However, I did notice that when I put fluid in the reserve tank, there seemed to be a leak. But when I started the car, the car would run for a little, then the temp gauge would start beeping like it's overheating, when the car had just been idleing with a bit of gas added, and the temp gauge still read cold. I can't seem to figure it out. When my buddy and I popped the hood and unscrewed the radiator cap, the fluid was bubbling pretty hard. What I'm thinking, is that the fluid is somehow not getting to the motor, or where it needs to go to fully cool the car. Any ideas of what to do/how to fix it?

The beep you hear is not from the gauge but a warning signal you still don't have enough coolant in there. The bubling you see is (i hope) the air coming out of the system.

Worst case is would be a blown coolant seal but try to bleed the coolantsystem first thoroughly before thinking about that seal.

But when doing this keep an eye on the temperature gauge so you don't overheat the engine, they really don't like that!

Where are you in Florida? You might be able to find some local rotary owners to help you. Could be several issues:

1) Worst case...your engine is toast or on its way due to a blown coolant seal.
2) Best case...you don't have enough coolant. Search in the 3rd Gen FAQs about "Burping" the coolant system and this will suggest the best way to fill your coolant.

First, know that the stock temperature gauge isn't linear. It essentially has three readings... cold, warm and rebuild.
As Gringo mentioned, there's a simple but important method to getting the air out of the system. After that I recommend installing a decent aftermarket temp gauge if you don't already have one.
