Question suggestions on removing vdi valve?

My car is a 91 s5 n/a.

I'm trying to remove my vdi valve to inspect it and replace the gasket, but it's stuck on with some sort of gooey black sealant instead of a proper gasket, and it doesn't want to come off. Any ideas?

sounds like average rtv/silicone sealant. cut/scrape it off with a utility knife if you can manage not to damage the part you're working on. Be sure to clean the mating surfaces thoroughly when you replace the part.

Ok, thanks. That did it. I scratched it up a little bit getting that stuff off, but I think it's ok.
