stock strut tower bar?

Do FD's have a factory strut tower bar in the back, or is that just a flimsy plastic piece for the rear divider to latch onto etc? I was afraid to post in the FD section, since I own one & don't know the answer.

Actually, the reason I asked is that removing it completely would make my wheelchair frame easier to position under the hatch, in the event that I've got a passenger. (when alone, the frame rides passenger, wheels behind the seats) My hopes were it was simply a plastic piece with no real structural purpose, but that's Ok. While I've no doubt it'd make no noticeable difference to remove it, (outside of very heavy cornering etc), if it's factory I suppose I'll leave it be. Will just make for a little additional effort on any passengers part, haha. Thanks again!
