Stock chassis/frame
Does anyone know if mazda or any private sectore manufatures the fd3 frame by itself since it is so popular?
I know classic muscle cars have their frames replicated and I was just wondering with the popularity of this specific vehicle if anyone knew of such a resource.

I have not heard of anybody making it myself, but these cars are not THAT popular compared to classic domestic model's of the 20's-70's. You have to look at it as a profitable investment. Would buyer's be willing to shell out thousands upon thousands of dollars for a shell of a car that is really not that rare? Also, a car that is really easy to get your hands on. Some of the cars of the past, there was only thousands made, the FD was still made up to 2002 in foreign market's, so it's not very difficult finding one. Compare finding an FD to finding a 67 Camaro or a 23 Ford.
Also, the FD does not really have a chassis from my understanding, but more of just a PPF. I had a picture that showed what I am talking about, but I can't find it on my computer.

To get an idea how the car is put together, follow the link at the top of this forum and download the 3rd Gen Service Highlights Manual. It shows the unibody design.
The powerplant frame is a replacement for transmission mounts - it directly connects the transmission tail housing to the differential for lighter / more responsive drivetrain support. On big hp builds it is usually replaced with trans/diff mounts that connect right to the unibody.

And yeah, the FD, along with the other generations of 7's is a unibody. So it does not technically have a frame/chassis like how a truck has a chassis. So, making a unibody just for RX-7's alone would be in the costs of millions.
If I find the picture, I will post it up, but I can't find it. It's just an FD body with the shell taken off showing the "guts" of the FD. The major part of what you see is the powerplant frame.
