Exclamation Starter Works, but make funny noise

Hi,
My names Robert I own a 1985 Mazda RX7 and I a hopefully simple question:

Like I said I have a 1985 mazda RX-7 First Generation with 12a stock. When I start the car it well start, but while starting(when I turn the key) the starter well scream or at least I think it is the starter. Nothing else happens, but if you need I can post video of this happening.

Thank You,
Robert

Sounds as though the starter needs a rebuild or replacement.

It's easy to remove, so pull it out and bench test it. It is also fairly easy to disassemble (covered in the Haynes manual).

I have been reading up on what else it could be and I came across belts. When the car is started they said it could be a belt slips while speeding up. I also read that it could be the air conditioning unit. As for that starter I got another one brand new and tested at a shop. They stated it might be just because its a high torque starter.

I dont know what one to try.

Final update: It was the hot start assist that was making the noise. All I did was disconnect the units power for now until I want to put in another, but You can still here the sound on the video.

What is the relevance of the hot start assist? My Dad's 85 was doing the exact same thing, and I disconnected the hot start assist, the thing still starts fine when hot, and its been running like that for a while now. Is it something I should look into replacing, or just an unnecessary component?
