Springs or coils for first mod?

I'll start out saying I like the low life. Oil pans and cracked bumpers are something I'm pretty used to. Brought home this 85 base model 5spd over the weekend. I have a ct26 off a supra 7m engine I plan to put on down the road. First off though I'm looking for air and some low. Can get used springs with ~3k on them for 75 bucks. Are they're cheap descent coils out there I should go with instead?

well if you want to go Low then you are looking at coilovers and they do not come in the "75 dollar range".!..add at least a zero on that..
Racing Beat may carry springs that lower the car in stock shocks by about an inch.

Most Mods on these cars will cost ya,so if you think anything is Cheap like Toss on for 50 bucks and go...NOPE..not these cars..they will break the bank!

When I said cheap coils I was thinking 300-400 range as in racelands lol, don't think they make 1st gen rx7 though. Read the newbies forum already,, anything you recommend I do first? Besides an oil change
Here's a pic from yesterday

Coilovers hands down.. You can raise or lift as you please. For a couple more hundred you can have them over springs!! Best of luck.

Bite the bullet and get coilovers. But get decent ones. The cheap ones bind and suck. While you're at it make sure you get some adjustable plates for the top so you can align it. (camber, caster)

I've been looking at Tokico shocks and struts with Tein springs. Or GSP coilovers. Doesn't seem like there's too many options for FC's and that set up always worked wonders on my Hondas. It's a few hundred dollars difference between them. I just don't know if I want to spend almost a grand on coilovers.

It definitely seems like that would be the best option quality wise. And just add a set of adjustable camber plates.

For 75 bucks you could just get the springs and see how you like them. Sell them if they don't work for you.
Coilovers can be great, but are an investment.

it seems people on this thread either cannot read or didn't read.

this is an 85. An FB. A "not FC" so unless you want to go through the steps to do an FC subframe swap, your going to find that some of the options.... well suck.

RESpeed is basically outof the question as Billy now long owns it and for whatever personal reasons the new owner has, he just can't keep up with production.

That leaves you with Ground Control or Techno Toys, or a piece meal kit, which is all the exact same crap in a different color. A welded ring and a slip over collar and then put inserts in the car.

But be advised. FBs and "stupid hella bro low" do not mix well for handling. The rear is very bind happy stock, and can get worse very quickly the lower it gets. The front, you will need the RCAs (roll center adjusters) at a minimum. then quite likely camber plates.

so basically, you will have a car with terrible handling at the limits. Its your car, do as you please, but just giving you a heads up from experience and all that.

Respeed.com makes great products. (Just make sure they are in stock and ready to ship before you order)...

just quoting this for emphasis and effect. tread very, VERY carefully. without "trying anything" or tempting fate, you can find yourself in a world of hurt very quickly in a slight drizzle.

I gotta admit. I thought we were talking FC, not FB.

Personally it seems like everyone hates the GSP kits so Im going to try and grab a used set for cheap. I got all 4 struts/shocks blown. So aaaanything is better.

Mostly every one that has coils on their FB use ReSpeed coilover sleeves/ a strut combo. But ive read that you can use from MR2 struts but you gotta do a little of custom work to them to get lower on the front. I have tockico blues and Racing Beat spring combo it wont get you as low as you probably want.
