soo i just bought an 88 vert and i need help

FL soo i just bought an 88 vert and i need help
its swapped over to a chevy 355 v8.
and my starter will start up fine the first time then after that just keeps grinding.
i have no idea what the issue is but when i disconnect the battery 12v wire itll start up again but i only get 1 shot. or else itll continue to grind. ughh help pm me

Bad solenoid.
take off starter and replace.

I had a simular issue with my 88 with 327 chevy, it turned out to be the starter needed a shim.

Thanks guys no longer have the car, but i replaced the starter 5 times. Shimmed no shims. Autozone starters are crap i guess.

I once replaced my bad alternator with autozones. I had to go back like 4 times......
