Should I buy this fc?
Should I buy this fc?
So I've been looking around a few months for an fc. I'm thinking about taking the plunge on a '90 red na that won't turn over, but I'd like some input before I can consider it seriously.
The owner explains that the car has been sitting for over 4 years. He stopped driving it because it needed a new clutch. And now that it has been replaced the car won't start, even with a new battery. They are asking for $1500.
My questions are:
1. Do you think the car is fixable?
2. What could the problem be?
3. Considering the state of the car what should I offer? (assume int/ext are in acceptable condition, I haven't received any clear pics of it yet)
4. Should I even bother checking it out in person?

Pass it up.
..4 years sitting??.. not only are you looking at a new clutch, you would have to redo all the brakes, hoses, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter and sock( in tank ) and..the list goes on.
My guess for not starting is that the clutch is totally shot and the pedal is not hitting the Interlock switch( under the clutch pedal's arm)..you press that in and turn the key,it may wanna roll over.

I am going to have to agree with misterstyx69 on this one.
With money and a proper diagnosis, yes.
They may claim that the only problem is the clutch. That seems completely suspicious to me. A bad clutch is no reason to let a car sit for four years. Perhaps there is a blown coolant seal or something internally wrong with the engine. If this is the case... The engine will require a rebuild.
IF they are able to provide acceptable compression numbers on each rotor face, the body is straight with minimal rust and a decent to great interior... Then I'd say $700 at most. They'll probably laugh at you, but they won't be laughing when it is still sitting around six months later.
I'd pass on it. Eventually they'll realize they're asking far too much for that car.
