shock tower reinforcement
front right shock tower on my '89 FC has one 1/2" hole and one 1/4" hole right next to each other on the front right shock tower in the engine bay. I bought the car used, so i do not know how it got there, but it looks like a puncture. Point is, the shock tower is fine under normal driving conditions. But, seeing how the vehicle is going to be in a racing environment soon...I feel it needs to be reinforced....
So, I thought maybe a ring of metal around the hole would work (welded) like a grommet.... or would cutting out a larger hole and welding a piece of sheet metal in...or do nothing....weld plate metal over/under it??
Well, what are my options anyways? Truth is, the hole is small, it probably won't do anything, but, better safe than sorry. (sorry no pic, car is in a shop about 3 hours away right now)

Post a pic of the holes when you get a chance. It might not be anything to worry about.
What kind of racing will the vehicle be used for? Usually, the racing organizations have rules about what is and isn't allowed. Maybe you can just patch the hole depending on the situation.

if the holes are round then they probably wont do anything, round openings channel stress far better then a more straight opening
which is why when you look at hollow parts under stress, the holes are always rounded off
you should be fine, but post pics to confirm
