shift **** removal

Ok....this is a basic question...and i tried yahooing, and searching here...

could not find my answer...

how to i remove the shift ****? simply twist it off??

i know for my wrx, civic, 240sx's in the past it was a simple twist off...

my 350z was not...i had to secure the shaft w/ a vice grip to make sure it did not twist as it would damage transmission internals...

how about the FD3S? I don't want to simply try twisting it off if it'll damage the transmission like on the 350z...

sorry if this is obvious, but I couldn't find the answer...I searched "shift ****" and "shift **** removal" on multiple sites

there's a "jam nut" underneath the ****. tighten the jam nut and it will release pressure on the shift **** allowing you to unscrew it.
