safc in my 3rd gen

picked up a apex'i safc for my 3rd gen rx7 but am having a hard time finding the initial setting for it...got it all ready to install but dont wanna install it with out know what should be right. i see alot of information about them with the 2nd gen, but barely any with a 3rd gen. i am stationed in germany and have a severe shortage of tuners willing to work with me. can any one help me please

What is your goal with the S-AFC? Most people don't use it because for the most part, the stock ECU can handle relatively small increases in boost in stock form. The S-AFC is not going to give you a whole lot of flexibility if you are planning on cranking the boost up a lot.

First off, do you have a wideband o2 gauge set-up to find out how much fuel you need to add or subtract? If not, then you'll be shooting in the dark as to fuel.

The second problem is that the stock injectors will get you nearly to 300whp, however if you put larger injectors in and compensate with the S-AFC, it tricks the ECU into reading a lower load than is actually there (so that it injects less fuel) but also being that it sees a lower load, can advance the ignition beyond where it should, and could cause your engine to blow.

I would leave it uninstalled until you find a tuner or really good tuning information. There are a few folks here who have tuned an FD with SAFC but not too many.

Have you searched in the engine management section of this forum?

when i went to the tuning shop in the town called amberg, i wanted to dyno my car and i was thinking i was running really rich. so while i was there the guy hooked up a wide band sensor for me, so i could check it out. and his dyno said i was running about 295rwhp but my engine was running extremely rich, the guage read right around 15. and i was reading about the risks of running to rich( detonation) and was thinking i needed to tone it down a little bit so i wouldnt risk my engine for a few horsepower. i cant afford a powerFC or similiar stand-alone system and thought this would work for what i thought i needed to do. i have already searched the forums and all i could find was tuning for the 2nd gen RX-7s. I read the manual for my s-afc and i believe i have figured out the sensor settings, but after this i am lost on what to do. please let me know any kind of advice you guys have, love my rx-7 and dont wanna blow my motor for something i could've fixed...or blow it thinking i was fixing it and really ruining it

15 is almost stoich, which is extremely lean. Either it was a different number or you were only looking at no-load injection. Running lean causes the detonation more than running rich. Rich just runs crappy.

Turbo'd rotaries do best with AFRs in the 11's or low 12's under heavy load.

You definitely want to familiarize yourself with the details of tuning before messing with it. One mistake can blow the engine; it's happened many times. If I were you I would find the nearest quality rotary tuner to you, and then install the tuning platform (ECU) that the tuner recommends.

Or at the very least, buy yourself a reputable wideband and compare your values to where they should be (as dgeesaman said, you should be at between 11.5:1 to 12.0:1) Any higher than that, and you are running leaner than you should and are seriously risking your engine. Obviously, as said above, your best bet is to find a good rotary tuner and have it done properly the first time. Regardless, an EMS and good tune will be cheaper than a new engine.
