I have been driving my 1980 Rx-7 for a few months now with no issue, not even a starter problem and mostly electronic issues such as the compressor not kicking on or the power windows not working, however recently my starter appeared to be going bad and did not seem to spark, just a mechanical noise coming from I believe the solenoid. Nothing another try or two didn't get to start and while annoying was not causing any major issues until today. On my way to work I noticed this morning it was rather difficult to get started and attributed it to the morning and the solenoid in conjunction. However I was shifting into 4th at around 3000 rpms that I noticed the car jumping as if it was about to die, I kept it in 4th and proceeded to drive and when I hit the end of the road and let of the gas my rpms PLUMMETED from 3k to 0 and my engine needless to say died, I started back up and continued down the road and as I was driving I took it out of gear to coast and let of the gas and voila' my engine died again, I have a holly carb, ngk br7e's and when I took the airfilter off to look at the carb It had oil in the chrome lid and I noticed a decent amount in the carb. I personally do not know what the issue is and would appreciate any feedback as I adore my 13b and would hate to see it go.


TLDR: Engine stops running when taking foot off gas even from 4k rpm

 

Alright just an update here, I figured it could be a case of bad gas when my brothers car who gets the same gas from the station I used, his fuel pump started giving him trouble. I put gas in from another station and now it just has troubles starting and there's a clicking going on when the key is in and ready, just before turning over. Is this a fuel pump issue?

TLDR: Was my fuel pump/filter/strainer damaged by the bad gas causing the starting problems?
